 Subject: lookin for a loud rumble

i have a 318 and am lookin for ways to make it have a loud rumble. i just want to replace my stock muffler, and maybe put a turn down on the end of the muffler. could you please tell me what mufflers will be the loudest.

If want a loud rumble there are several ways of doing this. You could transform your truck into a "true dual" setup, or you could go with an MBRP cat back setup,that'll shack the windows! You seem like you just want the cheapest easiest way, well heres the solution... just go with a 40 series flowmaster and your truck will rumble and sound mean... then again why not run a dual setup with 2 40 series flowmasters :)

why 2 chamber flows why not 1 chamber flows thats what i'd do j.j., 1 chamber have that flowmaster sound and no restiction whatsoever.

If all you want is loud, just put a straight pipe in place of the muffler. That is loud and cheap.

Here's a Flowmaster single inlet single outlet 2-1/2" dumped...With catylitic converter still in place...I don't know if I'd want it much louder...It will rattle your teeth going down the highway...
By the way it is a 4.7.

ive had striaght pipes on mine and now i have the 40 series fowmaster with the dual exit and 4in. tips and i love it. its pretty loud and sounds awesome.

Loud and inexpensive. Dynomax Bullet mufflers. $35. 2 1/2 in and out or go up to 3 inch pipe after the cat and go with the 3 inch in and out Bullet muffler. But, it goes down to personal taste. You may want to go with Flowmaster. They do sound tough as hell.

Oh, I forgot. Really loud. Use a turndown pipe with about a foot of pipe behind the Dynomax muffler. If you like heavy drone while you drive and the windows to rattle you will be in heaven.

You could make that turndown a turnout in front of the passenger rear wheel and share that wonderful 318 motor music with everyone. I am sure the ricers would love you for that, not to mention just about everyone else.

In my youthful opinion, you should cut off the muffler and leave it as a straight pipe. I did this to my 99 5.2L and y-ed it into duals. If its too loud....you're too old. Mufflers are for women.

I just took my '93 318 dakota into muffler man and they installed y-ed duals with 3" tips sounds loud and mean...i'm also installing headers sometime this week
