Subject: 318 cooling problem? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 93 dakota 4x4 with 318. A couple weeks ago I noticed some leaks that would come and go. Now when ever I pop the hood I notice the overflow tank is full(above full line) and the radiator is pretty low. So when I get in it and drive first thing I notice the temp gauge slowly starts to rise until its at a point that starts to scare me then it will go back down to the normal operating temp. This I assume is when the t-stat opens and sucks in the fluid from the overflow. Why is it doing this and what do I do to fix it?

Message: Do you mean you took out the thermostat? You should have a thermostat, Dodge put one in when the truck was new. Running without one is not good. Also, when your engine cools, the radiator is supposed to suck back the overflow. If it isn't, check your radiator cap as well.

Message: No, I do have a t-stat. Some loser thought he would try a lame attempt at humor and make me out to sound dumb.
