OK. There is no way anyone can say in this day and age that any motor is more powerful than another or that torque is any better. I have a 4.7L with a lot of upgrades that equal 510 HP. So what? I could put another $1000.00 and get 1000 HP. Same for the 5.2 or 5.9. Its not displacement but dollars.

Its called nitros and some forged pistons. Not the cast that come stock. But if I did that then no more smog here in California.

by the way, Im not here to argue. just a fact that anyone can build a motor. Mines not any better than anyone elses. If you think that a bigger moter equals HP look at the 350. Indefinant amount of HP. Or are you all ignorant. NOOOOOOOO JUUUUstttt KIddddinnngg. Had to have some fun with all the younger folk out there.

Yes you can run smog with forged pistons and nitrous Steve here in California. You should do a bit more research before posting.

Steve Sharp,
You are full of it. I have $2,000.00 I can blow right now. I will give you all of it to make 500 more HP on my R/T. That would mean my R/T would have to make 695 RWHP! You can do it for only $1,000.00. RIGHT? That means you can keep the other $1,000.00 for yourself. Now the consequence for not making the promised 500 extra HP will be that you pay me $2,000.00.

the 4.7 is more efficient but has 20 less hp i have a 99 single cab r/t and i am willing to bet it would chew up your b---- as- 4.7 and leave its as- looking blown out. im sorry you have a 4.7 but its probly your first or second truck and you think its fast but in reality the 5.9 r/t is way faster look at the dyno charts ohhhhhhhh ya did you also know the r/t has 3.92 posi verses your 3.55 lsd. please do some research and get your sorry as- 4.7 out of here. its a mass produced slug.

Posi and limited slip are the same thing there Sean, different companies call them by different names. And you can get an open diff to launch almost as hard as a posi if your suspension is setup correctly and you preload at the light the right way.

And this is not my first truck nor is it my first "fast" vehicle. I will say its not the fastest thing on the road but it is by no means a slouch. I was suprised by its performance and I used to use my 12 second trans am as a daily driver.

sean, the 4.7 comes with the 3.92, any time you want it. That's funny, posi, but the 4.7 is a LSD!

LOL

Sean, the dynos, for stock 5.9's and 4.7's rwhp, are nearly identical at peak hp.

Mass produced slug? How many 5.9's have they made?

Has anyone looked at the fact that the 5.9 weighs 250 pounds more than the 4.7? With RWHP almost the exact same it comes down to a weight issue.
I read in a mopar now magizine a head to head comparison of the R/T vs. a 4.7 exact same equipment both extended cab, 2wd, auto's, 3.92's.
The 4.7 out ran the r/t everytime the best being by over a second in the 1/4.
I am not saying that the 4.7 is better as there are far more parts out for the r/t i just can't see paying 2000 more for 15 horse and some suspension.

Joey,

Actualy, a 2002R/T CC weighs 4123lbs.
........ a 2002SLT cc weighs 3871lbs
..................difference 252lbs

5.9L vs. 4.7L w/Alum. heads...........100lbs

46RE vs. 45re..........................50lbs

9.25 vs 8.25...........................75lbs

That's 225lbs just in these 3 items. I'm probably off on the engine weight by 25-50lbs. The Aluminum heads on the 4.7L vs. the cast iron heads on the 5.9L is worth a minimum of 50lbs. The intake on the 4.7 is composite while the R/T's is aluminum. The list goes on and on.

I got my weight numbers straight from the book.

actually whiplash, last time i heard, the 4.7 regular cab was 3750lbs and when i weighed my truck (regular cab R/T) at the track wit the tailgate and spare still on it it was exactly 3830lbs which is a 80 pound difference. so thas way far off from 250 pounds. and also 04dak said the 5.9 itself weighed 250 more than the 4.7: he wasnt refering to the trucks as a whole..... at least not the way he typed it.

ok all you guys. if the 5.9 didnt have more power then why do they call it the r/t? and of course the 4.7 is more peppy, all smaller motors get to the higher rpms faster. look at the fast reving 750cc croch rockest and the slow 1500 harleys. now the 4.7 is tweaked from the factory to its max hp w/ leagal emisions. now the 5.9 is put out there w/ a restrictive exhaust and iron heads and heaveier block. they do that because dodge know it can make the hourse power but it dosent need to. the 4.7 on the other hand, they know it dosent have the power so the squeze every inch out. and reliability, i have a 95 ram w/ a 5.9 it has 212000 miles+ on it and has never been repuilt or ever died. the electrical is going out faster then the motor and same w/ the body in these salt wnters in illlinois. now there is no way any is ganna tell me that a 4.7 evenly matched up (no diff. metals, same exhaust intake ect.) to a 5.9 will have more hp. so what the 4.7 has 20 hp less... it also hs aluminum heads and has been squezzed until it cand even crap anymore. all in all the 5.9 is the better motor even though the 4.7 is close in the hp range

I have a 01 CC R/T, I was on the interstate 285 (ATLANTA)this evening and I was just cruizin at my normal 80-90 mph my truck likes it there and I pulled up on a cc dak, he had a modified exhaust, 20's and it was debadged so I was unable to tell what it was exactly. He sees the side of my truck and punches it, I ignored him but I decided what the hell. I was lucky enough to get in front of him (thinking I would leave him,,NOT). I hit the speed limiter,,, I knew my limiter is set higher than his,, Ooops he is still gaining!!! Ok key trick time,, WOW!! He knew the key trick too. Could not loose him. I am sure we were at 140-145 somewhere around there. I am sure he had a transplanted 5.9 or a 4.7. I am sure a 4.7.. Came out even/even in my opinion. (no off the line runs though just 75 and up).
My truck has a few mods,
Brute force AEM CAI
Mopar ignition module
relocated IAT
Soon to come m-1 ( I forgot to mention I have a very, very bad bellypan gasket).
I love daks so it realy does not matter to me what engine just as long as it is a dak.
Hey, Cool Guy in the other truck, I have run a BMW M-3 and a Lexus gs300 (he blew up his motor Ha-Ha) and a few Acura Integras and these are the ones that were a-holes and when the lost they tryed to kill me by running me off the road or other stupid stuff. He was cool.
So on MY end I will not choose 5.9, 5.2, 4.7 even 3.9 or 2.5 they are Daks and Daks Are cool.
And I did not mention I have owned a dak with each engine except for the 4.7 and I loved them all (yes even the 2.5). And if I had a 4.7 I would love it toooo.

Oh, I forgot,, Clint the R/T was (to me) a Dodge selling point more than a performance vehicle. They associated the name of old R/T cars to sell new cars. The neon R/T was not much diffrent than the original 95 Sports neon. So anyway take a Dak put in a old 360 pushrod v-8 (biggest v-8 momma mopar had at the time), lower it, put on performance tires, sway bars and a little better exhaust that is a R/T in a nutshell. We all would wish for a factory dak srt-10 or a fact hemi dak but I think they would be given a hard time by the Goverment's Regulations
