I know why he bought a '92 5.0 Mustang.

Last night I was searching through for supercharger kits and what not.

'86 thru '93 Mustangs have aftermarket parts coming out the a$$! I mean you pay $3000 to $4000 for a Supercharger for a Dakota.
You will never pay over $2000 for one for a Mustang and it comes with everything you need including fuel management! Look what aluminum heads cost for a Dakota then check out what it cost for a Mustang 5.0. CHEAP and tons of it!

I'm still buying a Dakota after the new years. But I for one am thinking of buying myself a $3000 early '90's Stang as well just because you can build a 10 second, street drivable car pretty cheap!

While I'm on the subject of Dakota's.. I have the ultimate question. 4.7 or 5.9? Stock I believe the 4.7 has as much power but better gas mileage. However. I am sure things can be done to the 5.9 to really get some brute power and could possable get better mileage as well. What do you think? My woman wants us to get a RAM but I only want it if I can get a HEMI. We'll be trading my Nissan and keeping her Chrysler. It just depends how buried I am on the Nissan which is failrly new and what they offer at the time. I myself really like the looks of a Dakota R/T. Oh. It has to be a 4 door (quad cab) for us. We got two kids that have to have their own doors!

yep, the 5.0 is one of the cheapest and easiest to fix up, parts galore for it. the only thing i have really done to mine right now is put on a novi 1000 and a trick flow intake. before i got it all tuned in i ran a 13.4@105.4, i know now that i have it tuned it in i can get a high 12 from it. at that mph on some good tires i should've been in the 12's anyway. on that run i had the timing at 8 degrees and the fmu on it,the thing was running pig rich. i have since took timing to 13 degrees and removed the fmu and some other things done also, this thing really rocks now. i can be going about 55mph and have this thing sideways now.

If you buy a 5.0 mustang to tinker around with make sure you get a 87-92 model. Anything built before 87 or after 92 didn't come with forged internals, a requirement for moderate to heavy breathers (forced induction).

i know you all already have them but that don't mean that all your friends and family do. yes, i got all the problems figured out. the darn header heat was just too much for the pcm and coil on the fender. i put the factory coil back on it where it should be up by the alternator. i then took a piece of the hood insulation and put in front of the pcm to block heat from the headers, wrapped the headers with some kevlar material i got from work and put a box fan mounted on the back side of the pcm to keep it cool. haven't had a problem since then. ended up going through 2 pcm's figuring it out though.

it all started when i was at the campground hooking the camper up to it. i was letting it run with the air on, about 90 outside then. when i went to take off it started sputtering real bad with a bunch of white smoke coming out of it. long story short, two pcms later and a coil i figured it out. the pcms get so hot you can't hardly touch them. let yours run sometime for awhile idling sitting still, then open your hood and feel how hot that pcm gets. stupid on dodge's part for putting it under the hood. i've heard other people on here talking about having probelms with there trucks and found out that the pcm had a crack in it, bet this is why.

Slider_buck,
Hello, I've been searching around on a R/T. I've posted a couple posts on this site and have been looking on ebay too. I just last week (3/21/03) got hit and they totaled my dakota. I'm looking into my options and looking around at different prices on the dakotas. Please e-mail me and give me the complete low down on your R/T for sale. iu looked at your site, but it only had what mods you have on it. I'd like to know about things like milage, trany, and even some up to date pics of the exterior, interior and engine bay. Thanks and I hope to hear back from you!!
