Subject: Dakota Lifts IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a '03 V8 4X4 Dakota Xtra Cab and I am looking to put a lift on it. Unfortunately I don't know anything on the subject, so hopefully someone can help me out!!
Are the lifts for basically all years?
I was reading through some of the older pages of topics and saw a little information on body -vs- suspension lifts... Can I put either one on my truck?
Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

Message: Oh bummer... I've seen a few driving around town with lifts, so I figured there were some available. Is it not recommended because there aren't any made for the specific model? Are people putting on aftermarket lifts that are not necessarily compatible?

Message: Not recomended because of the PITA it is. There are a couple copanies that offer them for the newer Dakota's, but those few that I've see people post about say they are POS.

Message: Get a 3" Performance Accesories body Lift. You can put 33" tires on your 4x4. Since I'm sure your 2003 has 16" rims you can get:
285/75/16 = 33 x 11.50
305/70/16 = 33 x 12.50
I'd recommend the 11.50 to keep them from rubbing.

Message: Awesome!! I can see what the truck would look like... I have the same truck... color and all!! How long have you had the lift? I heard they tend to sag in the rear after a year or so. Is this true? Have you had any problems with the lift? does it ride ok?

Message: Regualr Dakota lift kits '97-'99 won't work on the new Dakotas because Dodge changed the steering on them and there isn't a good lift kit available for the new style steering. Look around, you won't find a kit listed for a '00+ Dakota that will actually just bolt on.

Message: Amy,
Remember mine is a body lift, not suspension. The only sag will be the stock suspension settling. My 98 has settled about all it's gonna after 4 years.
HSKR is right about the suspension lifts, none are available to 2000+ models because of the rack-n-pinion steering. Rancho has one under development but hasn't released it yet.
For $200 you can put 33" tires on your truck with the body lift. The body lift is a one day install you can do in your driveway.
Check out Dakota's website for a step by step look at the install
http://dakota.4mg.com/
Also check out Walt's site. Specifically look at the info on cranking the torsion bars to lift the front of your truck if the rear end is high from the factory. Most people crank the front end up about 1" to level it out.

Message: Thanks! Those web sites actually give some great info.... http://www.tsliftkitstore.com/product.asp?ID=19070 is actually advertising lifts for Dakotas up to 9.5"...
I can't seem to get into company info on that site.... has anyone heard anything about their product? Are the kits pretty much all the same (quality wise)?

Message: both companies have a bad track record for quality of their products...truckin suspension has had one satisfied buyer on this forum since I've been coming here (about a year) and I wouldn't trust them after the crap they put Knobbyman through with his lift.
Do a search on this site and you should find some interesting threads about their products: whiplash suspension, trucking suspension, AIM industries, Knobbyman.
Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full.

Message: If you just want 33's, do the body lift. If you want bigger then wait for rancho to come out with their suspension lift and but it and a body lift and slap on some 35's. I wouldn't trust truckin suspension. A truck that handles bad sucks. You can't go on long trips because you're affraid something may break, you can't offroad because something may break. Poor Knobby.

Message: looks like I might go with the performance body lift (after asking them a few question on compatibility)... also waiting for the Rancho Sus lift sounds like a good idea... but they keep pushing back the release date... ho-hum...
