Subject: Got my R/T! Now what : O ) IP: Logged
Message: ok check this out, I picked up my "new" 2000 R/T CC the other night. I love it, I'm very impressed by the overall power this beast has. The previous owner had this horrible are camper top on it, I'm talking about the ones that look like a 2-story town home hah. anyway, removed it but he also had a set of flowmasters installed w/ gibson rectangle tips. the headers are stock but it does sound good but I'm assuming sound is the only thing I'm getting out of these because the tb hasn't been modified nor the air element. So I was thinking my first official upgrade would be either the k&n or airaid setup along with the airaid throttle body spacer. I would have the tb bored out or get a new one but I am tight on funds, would that throttle body spacer be a waste of money? I also want to get a new thermostat and relocated it.
anyhow, the above is my first plan of attack .. suggestions ideas?? THANKS!
I was also thinking about going with some autolight sparkplugs and new cables. This is beside the point though cause it wont cost much to do that.
Thanks a ton!

Message: Hey pix, congrats on your purchase. 1. t.b. spacer is a waste of money from the research I've done. Your better off saving for a modified t.b. 2. fipk from k&n would do you some justice.3. Get your self a brass cap and rotor to go along with those autolite 3293 plugs. 4. you can also relocate your IAT sensor. To read up on how to do that ,and what to expect, go to speedtweeks.com. While your there double check the autolite# I gave you. Good luck

Message: sweet thanks man! yeah the spacer was suspect so I figured I'd ask, the brass cap & rotor .. is that something I can just ask for when I get to autozone or is it specialized? Thanks again for the advice! I thought the thermostat is what you relocate, so not only do I want upgrade my thermostat I also want to relocate my IAT sensor .. there 2 different pieces right?

Message: The autolite plugs and brass cap and rotor are available at NAPA. I bought the plugs, cap, rotor, and anti-seize compound for my V6 for under $16. The plug wires, I bought JBA from truckperformance.com and, again I got the V6, it cost me just over $40 shipped. I think for the V* they will run about $48-50 shipped, but worth the investment. You can build a home brew intake pipe with materials from Home Depot or Lowes and buy a K&N cone air filter, total cost about $45-50. Relocating the IAT sensor, about 50 cents. Just got to install a plug in the intake manifold where the sensor use to be installed. You can also adjust the TPS to give you maximum throttle response. If you need more help, email me off line and I'll do what I can.

Message: Follow the upper radiator hose to where it meets the motor. There are 2 bolts holding a thermostat housing to the intake manifold at that point. The thermostat is sandwiched between there. Careful not to drop the bolts anywhere around the front of that motor cause there is just to many places for them to go and disappear forever! The IAT stands for the Intake Air Temp sensor and it is a brass "plug" with wires coming out of it somewhat to the left of where the T-stat is in side of the beer barrel intake runner. If you move it don't move it so far that the factory wires won't reach the new spot, then plug the old hole with a brass pipe plug. Another inexpensive (free in this case) thing to try is to remove your clutch fan. It's hard to get the nut loose the first time but easy after that. The electric fan can be tured on by selecting any a/c setting, or it will come on automatically when the truck hits about 220 degrees. It's really only necessary to watch if you are sitting still, if you are moving more then about 30 mph then the natural air flow is more then any fan puts out. Some people have rigged a new permanent temp switch for the fan and that might cost about $20 to do.

Message: Whatever you do, don't get the Airaid intake I had it on my truck and the tube got heat soaked big time. Get either the K&N FIPK or the Mopar Performance Cold Air Intake(Make sure those come w/ the cool air dam too!)
And don't get a 160 T-stat me and all my buddies threw a code on the computer unless you live in a desert area. I've swapped mine back out to the 180 and no codes.
Have Fun!
P.S. Beware...modding can get addictive! haha

Message: man thanks guys, I've printed this up and will hack away at these parts! I was thinking about waiting for at least a month or so to get to know the engine and it's characteristics. Honestly if I threw something on tonight I wouldn't be able to tell because I haven't gotten the chance to really flex the engine just yet. It would be a week or so b4 I could get most of this stuff but come that time I doubt I'll want to wait heh. man I love this truck, thanks again for all your help!

Message: You might want to consider the MOPAR High Performace PCM or get your stock PCM "flashed" with high performance settings. Everyone Ive talked to have been very satisfied with custom flashing their computers and say its well worth the money.
