Harlow WIlcox was a great radio announcer of the thirties and forties; best known for his work on the Johnson Wax Program with Fibber McGee and Molly. He also read Autolite spark plug spots on shows like Fort Laramie. YOUR Harlow has taken the commercials and is posting them here.

My original Champions were toast at 9,000 miles on my 4.7 I changed to Autolite and had SB 18-01-01 installed. Lasted much longer so went back to Champs to see if the SB fixed the problem and the Champs lasted almost as long as the Autolite.

I have put in Autolite Platinum now and am impressed with the change in the power. It seems to pull much stronger after each shift. Would recommend them to anyone with the 4.7

Autolite has 2 Platnuims listed for the 4.7 Dakotas Here is what I found
Autolite Double Platinum APP5224 Stock Number APP5224 Part Number .040 Gap $4.85
Autolite Single Platinum AP5224 Stock Number AP5224 part Number .040 $2.72

I to am looking for some good plugs to use I have had good luck with NA Cars and Platnium Plugs Double should be worth a try

The Autolite Platinum plugs I installed are the AP5224. I am very happy with the performance and the fuel mileage seems better. These are single platinum. I wasn't aware of the double platinum at the time I installed them.

What is the gain of going with the platinums over the 5224 copper plug. Also, I live in the Northwest, and am wondering when and why you guys change to a colder thermostat? obviously I'm new to this, but want/need better mileage in my 4.7

I'm now thoroughly confused about what spark plugs to use in my stock 4.7L. The consensus here is to use the 5224 with a stock 190 thermostat, and the colder 3923 with a colder 180 thermostat.

But this is contradicted by information I found on an Edelbrock web page (illustrated with a photo comparing plugs that were too hot, too cold, and just right):

"The words "hot" or "cold," when used in referencing spark plugs, are often a source of confusion and misunderstanding, since normally a hot spark plug is used in a cold engine (low horsepower) and a cold plug in a hot engine (high horsepower)."

Basically, Edelbrock says I want a plug hot enough to prevent fouling, yet cold enough not to ping. Opinions, anyone?
