Subject: replace all 3 Kitty's IP: Logged
Message: After last weekends Dyno session I have convinced myself I need more. Specifcally I want to replace the Cats with high flow versions. But my questiosn are does anyone have a P/N and price to replace both precats and the 3rd main cat on a 2000 Dakota 4.7. Can I jsut clamp these or do they have to be welded to be emissions compliant? How mcuh does welding cost?

Message: I think in some states it's against the law to remove or replace cats unless they're broken. So you might check to find out if you need to make sure to "accidentally" hit and break the cats while trying to hammer on "something else".
(yeah, the "can't replace" thing sounds stupid to me too)

Message: Go to your local public airstrip and buy a gallon or two of 110 (blue) low-lead aircraft fuel. Add it when your tank is low, like when its down to 1-2 gallons...that way your lead level will be in the range that the engine will run fine but you will ruin your catalytic converters for sure!

Message: heck just replace them and hide them in your house if they question it just say you were doing something bottomed out and something punctured your cat they have to see it to get you with anything and who is gonna keep a punctured cat, as for taking all three and putting high flows iwill run into a problem and that is they don't make high flows that will fit into the shape of the 2 that are right at the exhaust manifolds, but from my experience and i have track numbers from both my dodges i have owned you remove a cat and put a high flow in, they run slower then when you leave the cats alone becuase magnum engines run off that back preasure and you start messing with that and it drives the computer mad, i was running 9.90 with my 4.7 4x4 extended cab dakota 5 speed in the (1/8 mile) put the high flow cat on and a flowmaster single chamber racing muffler( a slight bit agianst the law where i live) single inlet duel outlet with aluminized exhaust pipe from the cat back and now my truck run 10.4 in the (1/8 mile) little dissapionted. hint the reason i wanna put the 5.7 hemi in my truck which from the measurements i have obtained on the engine will fit perfectly into the engine compartment. but need to finish my chevy show truck.

Message: I there are gains to be had by cutting out (removing) the 3rd cat on a 4.7 why would it be any different to replace all 3 with hihg flow, I would assume this would be about the same amount of backpressure,
How about removign the precats and moving the 2nd O2 sensors to behind the one remaining cat?

Message: I NEVER USE PUNCTUATION IN THINGS LIKE THIS, AND AT NIGHT TIME I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT SPELLING WHEN I AM TYPING AT NIGHT AFTER 8 HOURS OF WORK AND 4 HOURS OF CLASS. BUT I HAVE TO PUT A CAT IN ITS PLACE BECAUSE IT WILL NEVER PASS THE VISUAL STATE INSPECTION, AND NO HIGH FLOWS DON'T CREATE THE SAME BACK PREASURE, HINT THE NAME "HIGH FLOW", THEY WORK ALMOST LIKE A STRIAGHT PIPE BUT FILTER OUT WHAT THE TREE HUGGERS CONSIDER TOXIC GAS BUT IN RETURN THEY RELEASE SULFUR DIOXIDE WHEN COMBINED WITH WATER YOU HAVE SULFURIC ACID NOW WHICH IS MORE SAFE HUH? BUT ENOUGH ABOUT MY CAT PET PEIVE

Message: Damn, no reason to shout!!!!
My theory is that with only the 2 precats (3rd removed) will have the same TOTAL backpressure as a system with freeflow precats and a freeflow third cat. What is your opinion about this?

Message: i wasn't shouting, I am a computer aided draftsman, and i was at work when i wrote that. i have to use caps at work because of the drafting, i forgot to turn it off.
my opinion is backed by facts, i still have the 2 cats at the exhaust manifold and a high flow in place of the third, and i lost .45 of a second in the 1/8 because i lost my low end torque. but burn out in 3rd more now too. so the benefits to the exhaust are at top end but with a truck that is restricted top end doesn't do much help, even if yours is programmed not to be restricted you still only top out at a little over 120, that i found out with mine, 4x4 at that fast is scary.
