Subject: CenterForce Dual Friction IP: Logged
Message: Well I got the CF dual Friction put in Fri :) I can definately tell a difference from how the stocker felt. It deffinately feels like it holds better and more positive while accelerating. But one concern I have is while in neutral there is a rattling noise coming from the clutch area in the trans. It goes away when I engage the clutch or when accelerating in gear. I was told that its just the weight system in the clutch thats making the noise while its rotating.
Has anyone else with a CF clutch experienced this noise?
Thanks
Steve

how many miles were on the truck? did you notice any power gain, or quicker revs out of it?
if you did it yourself, how hard was it?

Message: Every vehicle I've ever owned had a rattle near the clutch, even my dak - the rattle stops if I push the clutch in if I'm just sitting in neutral - otherwise its basicly there all the time, but once you start to move you generally can't hear it - ie, it stays the same volume and pitch all the time as well.

Message: Fortunately I had help installing the CF. It was quite a job to drop the tranny without a lift. Although it doesnt weigh a ton it still requires at least 2 people to drop it out. The biggest pain was sliding the tranny out past the precats. After that putting the clutch on the flywheel wasnt soo bad.
Anyhow, the driveablility on the street hasnt changed hardly at all. The pedal feels a little different, just a little bit more firm to push in. I havent push the truck too hard since the install. It turns out I accidently installed the shifter tower gasket upside down which cause me to leak tranny fluid out from the top of it. Luckily I noticed it a few days ago and was able to fix it yesterday. So now that I added back the lost tranny fluid just today i will be able to let her rip. Cya, Steve.

Message: I like this!!! Got a nice chirp in third gear while giving it the go pedal. Each gear engages way more positive than before. It was definately worth the hastle of installing it.
Even though centerforce only lists the clutch up to year 2000 for the dakota, it seems to fit 2001 just fine.

Message: I had my stock clutch last 15K miles before it went out when I missed a 2-3 upshift, doh!
So, far the Centerforce DF has been in for almost 20K miles and even though not as strong as it was when it was new, it still is very strong and much better than a factory clutch, plus it was $20 cheaper than the factory clutch through Summit!! and yes when changing any clutch it's highly reccomended to swap the throw out bearing too, they're only about $20 anyway.

Message: Also just to add, anyone looking for the CTF-DF clutch, go to Summit. It's only $260.00. Part #CTF-DF735552 w/ CTF-N1764 for the T.O. Bearing. That's the one I have in my truck, even though their webpage doesn't have it in the application guide. But it's an 11" dia. 1 1/8"-10 spline input shaft size. It's the exact same as part# ctf-df972972, which is what is recommended for our 4.7 Dak's, but it costs $120 more and is back-ordered as of today. Hmmm, can we say price gouging??

Message: Just my two cents...if you are making less than 500 HP the CFDF is the way to go, anymore than that and you need something else. We ate two Centerforces in Tripper Jones truck (S-trim 360)the first was when the truck was first being tuned and the disk exploded, ripped all the clutch off the rivets, and the second was last Friday at the dragstrip. First run almost put the truck into the wall, second, missed 4th gear and third run it lost a bunch of mph (only 112). We are going to try the Ram 6000 series which should handle 600 horsepower.

How much did you spend including all parts? Did you have to turn the flywheel ?
I am interested in getting this type of clutch, if it is going to be able to stand up to the abuse I might have to inflict on it.

Message: Chris,
What I meant by "not as Strong as it was" is simply after the 500 mile no- hard launch break in and I really tested it out it barked the tires in 3rd. Now after 20K miles it doesn't do that, but it will still roast my 285/40/R18 Nitto's half-way through 2nd gear. I would definatley reccomend it for anyone looking for a replacement 4.7 clutch.

Does anyone but centerforce make a clutch for our 4.7l dakotas (preferably a Kevlar)...

Message: Chris,
I don't think you have anything to worry about if your getting 40K on a factory clutch. I can bet you don't abuse your clutch as hard as I do with 10" wide rear tires doing burnouts, donuts, 2500rpm launches, missing a shift or two and such. My stock clutch lasted 2 months after I installed my new wheels and tires, and so far I have 20K miles on the CTFDF clutch. I think your trying to find the bazooka to kill the rabbit here. AS far as a Kevlar clutch, you could probably find someone to custom make one if your wallet is deep enough.

On the new clutch, very few burnouts (maybe 12), no more speed shifting, no more fun basically.. and all highway miles... I want a clutch I can beat daily and expect it to last forever, is this too much to ask...? So yes I do beat on this truck in general...

Message: Chris,
Just ask anyone who has the CTFDF clutch what they think of it compared to factory. Steve sure seems like he loves his, and I love mine too. If the same part number clutch I have is spec'd out for a direct replacement for a 455ci 1970 pontiac GTO I don't think you have to worry about putting in a 287ci Dakota. Just ask the KRC Tech, unless your putting more than 500 ponies to the grond you don't have anything to worry about.
