Subject: 4.7 to a 5.7 engine swap IP: Logged
Message: i know there is already a 5.7 hemi about to hit the marcket on www.hotrodlane.cc, but i am waiting for mopar to release the 5.7 hemi crate engine and i am gonna make a hemi kota 4x4 only problem i am gonna run into is the NV3500hd i have isn't rated for the torque that that engine can put out and the nv4500 has to low of a gear ratio to use 1st gear on the track, andy body have any idea what transmission out there would hold up to the abuse of that engine in a 4x4, i have looked up many options but the ones that can handle it with a gear ratio i want to obtain don't match up to a transfer case that have, if you have any advice please give me all the help you can i am in the process of researching this and any help would be much appreciated

Message: I think you are dreaming if you think that dodge is going to come up with a crate engine for the 5.7 hemi. They don't even have enouph to go around as is. If you want a hemi get a 426 or a 528.
Oh and a tremec 5 speed will work nicely.

Message: cw i can already get a 5.7 turn key crate engine just look at the site i posted on my original posting the only problem with that engine is it is completely chromed out with a lime green painted block, i want a more stock look, also get the october edition of hotrod magazine and read what they have to say about the hemi, it is cheeper to make the hemi then it is to make the 4.7 engine, so there are more of the 5.7 out there then you know of. and what site can i look into to find out the gear ratio's of the tremic 5 speed and find out about the dimensions cause i don't want to have to go out and get all new drive shafts both front and rear, cause as soon as rancho comes out with thier 3" lift for my 2002 dakota i am putting that on my truck so i won't have much room for altering dims on tranny.

Message: The reason that chrysler hasn't put the hemi in the 1/2 ton is the fact that they don't have enouph to do so.
Not sure on specs found a couple sites but nothing offical. Didn't read good enouph the first time yours being a 4x4 I am not sure that a tremec can be put in. I can't think of anything better than the NV-4500 for a 4x4.

Message: CW,
I don't think that they are selling the 5.7L HEMI on that site. I've found nothing that leads me to think that. I guess I'll just call them and see what's up. Oh CW, they are making way more engines than vehicles that have them so far. They could crate them, but they're not going to, at least not yet.

Message: I mean they haven't stepped up production yet. They are talking about doing a early release on the 2004s. Then the 1500s will have the hemi and the the diesel will have the new auto. They do plan to sell a whole bunch of these engines. Even will end up in a rear wheel drive version of the 300m.

Message: if you are looking on the site they don't say anything about buying any engines on there you have to order thier catalog and it has all the information in there, it works well if you get the computer version goes more into detail on what it has done to it and when it will be available for sale. i got it for my LS6 conversion on my chevy 1500 but that i put a richmond 6 speed in and a ford 9 inch rear, it is nice. but gonna get an older kota like 99 or so and put the hemi in that also that will also have the richmond 6 speed. but for now it is stuck in my dreams. but the hemi kota in the 4x4 will happen if worse comes to worse i know there will be dumb fools that don't know how to handle the hemi power and totla thier vehicles i will just get one of them if i can find one. but dodge is gonna release the hemi in a crate and i garentee it will be within the next 2 years. too much money to be made of this engine for them not to.

Message: CW, I'm positive on that. They're right across the street from my work. I test drove the truck 2 weeks ago (the day after it came off the truck). I still like the HO diesel with the 6 speed better, but it was a stout truck none the less.

Message: What HP is the auto rated at? When they come out with the new auto all diesels will be 305 hp then. That is why they are going to it. I am not doubting you it just kinda sounds like they are spoofing you. Like I say they have the autos right now but it is the old one rated at 250hp.

Message: I still think that it would be a better and cheaper idea to super charge or turbo charge the 4.7 6-8 PSI would more then make up for that 1 extra liter. The ideal situation would be to bore and stroke the 4.7 to 5.2-5.5 and run an after market fuel and ignition ECM to get the beast to run up to 10,000 RPM and put some serious boost to it. I would like to see boost figures of 16-24 PSI. I have a dream that some day I will be able to buy stroker kits, Cams, custom pistons and rods the same way I can for Toyota Supras, Honda Civics........ Who knows maybe someone will develop an ECM that that will plug right into the factory harness with nothing more then a few adapters and a Lap top to set it up. It would be nice to have an ECM that can still provide data to the PCM via the data bus and still have easily adjusted fuel maps and ignition timeing. I know I am dreaming again. I will have to get a manual trans from salvage yard and a motec ecm, custom build the triger system and crank pulley have an add one fuel cntroler................... Dc cant make it easy can they!!! No one makes heads for it realy, or after market intake manifold, cams are insane from KRC and Huges have no driveability......

Message: I think most people here also use their trucks as daily drivers. 10,000 rpm is out of the question. I don't think the 4.7 would last too long like that, especially if you bore, stroke and boost it. I think the best way to go is to boost the 5.7 with 6-7lbs. It would be cheaper too. Have to wait and see how the 5.7 does before making any decisions though.

Message: GenIII If I were only single again. I would really like to have the money to play around with the 4.7. I think with the right build up it has alot of potential. I would be willing to leave the bore and strok alone if I could get it to spin up to 10,000 RPMS and at least 14psi of boost.
