Subject: A wet V8 & Codes IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota Sport, and was out and about and chose to go through a deep water hole on the edge. I thought I was going slow enough to get through without getting wet, but did not and stalled 3/4 of the way across. My truck started within 5 minutes of the stall. A couple of cylindars are missing and are still missing. I plan on changing the oil, replacing the plugs, and running some dry gas with hope that most of my proplems will be solved. But along with the miss, I also have a loud ticking in the motor. Could I have possibly bent a rod? Or what could the ticking be from? Another queston, my check engine light came on 3 times on the way home and each time it blinked 6 times. I was told that that was a code for some of my problems. What would this code represent? Or where could I find out what this code represents? (It's not in the owners manual) I don't want to take it in to have it looked at yet, warranty just ran out 1000 miles ago! I would appreciate your response.

Message: It is very, and I mean very possible that you bend a rod. I've lost compression from a very slightly bent rod in my 97 5.2. That ticking might just be that. Was the air filter wet after you did this? If it was then you sucked in water like I did. Check the tranny if the fluid is pink (like peptobismol for and auto) then you have water in the tranny and you shouldn't drive it at all, have the dealer power flush the tranny fluid. But it will still go bad as the clutch bands in an auto swell from water then the computer can't keep up to adjust it's properties, plus the bands are made of a water soluable adhesive (go figure, it's a truck). My tranny gets put back into my truck this week from that as it only lasted 4 months after parking mine in wasit deep water. Also replace the gear oil in the fronbt and rear diffs. If you have LSD add the additive in there also for the rear diff, generally 1-2 bottles work. Add the stuff before you drive.
If you seakch some of the old stuff in here, you'll find my problems that I have had from the attempted Dakota-Boat wannabe.
Best thing to do, take it to a dealer (if under warranty) and have them go over it.
