Message: Yes, 4.7 guys, this should be the same. Move the cable to the rear for firmer shifts, and forward for earlier, softer shifts.

Message: I did the TV cable adjustment and don't think it really helped. My R/T holds gears a little longer but channels 8 and 13 still come in like crap!

Message: Sorry for recycling a old post, looking for verification that there is NOT a TV cable on the 4.7 engines to adjust?
Thanks (Yah, I know, get a dish...)

Message: Word of warning for guys that do have the TV cable...DON'T MESS WITH IT!!! I've talked to a bunch of R/T and other Dakota guys thats said they've messed up their trannies doing this mod. I did it when I first heard about it and common sense would tell you that over time the tranny won't shift right. Fortunately I've set mine back to stock or near it anyways...never touching it again!

Message: Tell us some details of you drivetrain and we might be able to help you out. Has the truck had any regular maintenace, what is the mileage? Is the origianl tranny fluid still in it after 100K miles?
Does your truck have a 3.9L, 4.7L, or 5.9L engine? The 3.9L and 5.9L engines use an auto tranny that has the TV cable. It connects to the throttle linkage and tranny. It tells the tranny what the throttle position is.
From what you describe it sounds like something serious is going in inside the tranny. Get it diagnosed by a competent mechanic.
Go buy something else if you really feel that way about lemons and trucks. Oh yeah, learn how to spell Chrysler.

Message: Thanks for the addition Rusty, you are right about that. I wasn't even thinking about the 5.2L engine because Nelson mentioned he has a 2002 truck. 1999 was the last year for the 5.2L V8 in the Dakota.
All the non-4.7L GenIII Dakotas have a 42/44/46RE tranny which uses the TV cable.
