Ian - I don't know if they're designed to be that way or not. I can tell you that Jonas probly has not tested them to see if they maintained CARB approved standards yet since last time I checked he hadn't even dyno'd them yet (he was still breaking them in). Like a lot of the other people that run shops that deal with parts for our 4.7's, Jonas is incredably busy. The best advice I can give you is don't get frustrated (which I know is hard) just keep checking back on his site and seeing if anything changes. I suspect he will post just about everything you want to know about his performance parts when the time comes.

You know when it comes to cams, unless it lopes to the point of nearly dying and don't drip raw gas out the exhaust pipe, it's 50 state legal. For instance go out to your truck and pop the hood and tell me if the cams in it now are 50 state legal, Huh, can't tell cause you can't see them. Well when you go to get your emissions done use the William 'Bill' Clinton philosophy DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL. If the inspector doesn't know you have after market Cams, then he's not going to ask if they are CARB Approved.
Install your Cams and have a good weekend.

thanks for the info guys...Cotharyus, your'e right it is hard to wait, trying to decide to just go ahead with the HO cams or to wait for Jonas.
Yates...thanks, that's what I wanted to know, I understand the emissions tester would have know way of physically looking for the cams but I didn't know cams had such a little affect on emissions, why didn't dodge put the better cams in all 4.7's if there was no affect on emissions, I thought aftermarket cams affected emissions hence the power increase?

They will, of course, but not enough to fail emissions.

Ian - if you have the money and don't mind doing it twice, then go on and get the HO's - but I have a feeling if you do get the HO's and you don't want to do it twice, you'll wish you had waited. If I were you, even though I know the most effective upgrade for the 4.7 to date has been the cams, I would wait, do something else to the engine, get an intake, work on your exhaust, change out TB's, something, but hold off on the cams. Thats just a personal point of view.

I agree with Yates. I installed my HO cams and 3923 plugs today and my baby definitely runs better. No way I'm telling any smog personal about it.
The cams don't lope or create a radical idle like the 3/4 or full race cams of the old days. It's just a stock 2002 HO cam from a jeep.
From all the past posts I've read the main cheap mod that causes emissions problems is the Robert Shaw 180 T-stat. I don't no why, it's just what I've read in the old threads.

Running the engine at a slightly lower temp gives you better power, but doesn't allow the fuel to burn as completely as at a higher engine temperature. It creates a slightly rich running condition, which translates to higher emmisions.
