Subject: poping noise IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
Lately I have noticed that when I make a hard left there is a poping noise that comes from the front end. I am thinking that it just may need to be lubbed, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I have a 2002, just fyi.

Message: Take it to the dealer and have them look at the ball joints. I had both the uppers and lowers replaced on both sides at 20k on my 2001 QC 4x4.
It's a pretty common problem on almost all dakota models. Too bad Moog doesn't make a replacement yet for the 2000+ models.

Message: JBark as a matter of fact they do!! in fact they are the only ones that I know that make replacement ball joints for daks 00' and up. You are not going to find it on the website is only in the catalog books for some reason. Don't even think about finding it on the autoparts store comuter system. I tried them all!!

Message: FredDQC: What catalog has the '00 and up ball joints? I'm sure mine will go out again, and I'd prefer to replace them with moogs instead of the crappy OEM parts.

Message: Well, whoever carries moog parts in your town should have the parts catalog for reference. You have to be persistant in order for them to do the extra effort to look it up. Unless they have excellent customer service where you live. In my case, well it is a long story to tell. All I can say is that I had to play stupid, lie, get angry etc..etc, until they were so sick of me that finally one of the emplyees went to the back and pulled out the moog book.(first try, they blew me off by just saying that it wasn't on their system) so be aware!!.

Message: try checking all your bolts from the frame to the cab. I had one of these things popping for almost 6 months. brought it to the shop and nobody could find it. Then one of the old smelly men neighbors crawled under and tightened these bolts and it has never happened again.
very bizare but true. it soulds like its commimng from the suspension but sure enough the cab bolts (2 od them were loose)

Message: Thanks for the hint, I will give it a try. Where
were the bolts located, you said the cab, do you
mean toward the back? Mine really sounds like its
coming from the back.
Thanks

Message: I have the same popping noise in the front end. I have taken it to the dealer and they eventually(after 4 trips) replaced the entire front end.
