Subject: 5.2 problem IP: Logged
Message: hey i got a 94 5.2 and it keeps stalling. It wont do it all the time, i will just be driving along and it will stall, then it will take around 30 minutes to start back up and until it starts back up all the gages are screwed up. I have replaced the fuel pump, all the disributer parts, wires and plugs, the coil. I ended up taking it to a garage and they said it was the crank sensor had that replaced and still does it. I am getting fed up with this. Anyone have any suggestions. Please!

Message: Feel your ECU when it stalls. I'll bet dimes-to-doughnuts that its hot to the touch. If it is, then you'll have found what's been ailing your truck.

Message: hey the mechanic said it was the coil, but i already replaced it with one from Auto Zone, he then went off on how not to buy parts from them, so there gonna replace it and hope thats it, but if it still stalls ill check the comp., thanks.

Message: I have a '92 w/318. I've been having a problem with stalling intermittently too. But when it happens to me, I just have to crank it a bunch of times, then it will start within 20 seconds. I am planning a engine rebuild within the next month and am also thinking about replacing the ECU with a performence one. Haven't priced it yet. And is it true that you have to run Premium Gas with the performance ECU?

Message: Clean your idle solenoid on the back of the throttle body. Take it off and do it right, just don't turn it.

Message: I had the same stalling problem with my 99 318 . It was a ccd bus problem with the PCM. On mine in the odometer box ccd bus would flash when it happened so the PCM was dead. I had 40K miles on my truck but since the PCM is part of the emissions it has a longer warranty

Message: i tried something last time the engine stalled, i unpluged the conecter that goes into the computer (which resets every thing and cleans the memory on the board) then pluged it back in then it would start back up. So my computer has to be bad, does anyone know how much money it would cost me.

Message: A stock computer runs about $650. I bought a mopar performance one for $235, But I have to run premium gas and octan boost. Also the mopar one came with a $100 rebate if you send back old unit.

Message: Where did you get that MP ECU for $235? and also a $100 rebate for your old one? That sounds like a great deal! I priced it at the local Dodge Dealer and they want $295. BuyMopar.com wants $255. Is the Mopar rebate current if I was to buy a new ECU from them?

Message: Damn, this sounds familiar. My '99 5.2 4X4 has been stalling intermittantly also. It's well maintined, but just recently started acting up. The idle is smooth and does not fluctuate, but once in a while it will stall when I come to a stop, but then start right back up, first try. And just yesterday, it actually died after accelerating to about 40mph., then It took a few tries to get it to start again. it seems to me like a loose wireing connection or sensor/computer going bad, but I cant really tell, as it doesnt happen all the time. I've gotta check all the wires, plugs, cap/rotor still, but they are all relatively new parts, so I am still at a loss. Any ideas, sugestions apreciated. I'll follow up if I can find the damn problem for certain.
(By the way the truck has MSD ignition, coil, wires, 3923's 180 stat. etc.) sorry for the novel, but this is starting to piss me off.

Message: my 95 5.2 does the same thing! damn it! im getting pissed cause it stalls only when i start it when the engine is still warm. i was thinking since the idle is not adjustable a mopar pcm would help, and i was planning to get one anyways but now i really want one!
