Subject: Exhaust Equalization IP: Logged
Message: I want to go with the true dual setup, but my buddy warned me that if I didn't do some kind of intersection or crosspipe, it would idle rough due to no exhaust equalization. Do I have to worry about this? or can I run 1 pipe for each header as planned?

Message: Im not sure about the equilization, but most anyone who knows a bit about exhaust will tell you that with true duals you should run an "H" pipe (or crosspipe as you called it). Me and a buddy ran true duals without the "H" pipe on his 95 v-6 with manual tranny and didnt notice any idle problems if that helps you any.

Message: I think it's for harmonics. The "H" will cut down on droning in the cab.

Yes, what your buddy says happens sometimes. Exhaust plugs will back up on the left bank if the restriction is not relieved-best thing to do is to increase the pipe diameter slightly on both sides, make more subtle bends and use an x-pipe so that plugs from the right side will help create a low pressure area and equalize the flow. (The closer the x-pipe is to the motor, the more the effect.) You'll have better throttle response, and if you plumb the o2's in the right location you won't get a code.
Oh, and you will get a sweeter note with the x-pipe. -talk at you later later

Message: Yes you should run a crossover pipe. It can also help to scavange the gas's out the pipe. One pulse creates a vaccum makeing it esier for the next cylinder to empty out. This way alternateing cylinders help each other out. The distance from the collector must be tuned to your vechile. I do not kow the formula to use but I am sure someone on this site proably has it or a link to it. It helps most at higher RPM's and was made popular buy raceing sports. I think that it is still in use by Nascar.
