Message: I have a '93 Dakota 4-wheel drive, and I am having a real loud roaring coming from the rear-end, the faster I go the louder the noise. Fluid in rear-end is fine, any suggestions??

Message: could it be a bad u-joint? otherwise I would think it is one of the bearings in the rear end. How about the rear bearing on the tranny itself. Being speed not RPM related you ahve to look at everything that rotates according to speed, everything from driveshaft to tires....

Message: I'd say it sounds like your rear is about to take a $hit on you. But I could be wrong

Message: Mine started to make that noise, I switched over to Mobile 1 75W/90 (plus a bottle of friction modifier) and it stopped the noise. It's worth the $15 to try it out.

Message: I took the rear cover off mine. Found that the small gears in the carrier were pretty well shot. I ordered a new carrier assem from Summit for $240. I just sent it back Thursday. Randy's ring and pinion has the same carrier unit for $175. I'll probably get the carrier bearings also. Only like $40 more. Still be more ahead than if I kept the Summit unit. I put in heavier lube also. Worked fer about 5 days.
