Subject: R/T Cam and Heads IP: Logged
Message: I am about to get my R/T 2.02 heads in and a lot of other goodies. What I want to know is what kind of horse power gains will i get if i put my stock 5.9 heads and camshaft on my little brothers 97 dakota with a 5.2 he already has a home brew cold air intake and a tricked 50mm tb.
If anyone knows please help

Message: Shawn,
The 5.2/5.9L heads are identical. Haven't checked the actual specs on the 5.2L cam though...i'd suspect it's slightly smaller than the 5.9L. (Could be wrong...will check my books at the shop for you.)

Message: If nothing else, he could always have your spare heads ported, rather than removing his heads, sending them off, waiting, then installing them agian. Less down time. If you don't bother porting it. The valve seals and springs still should be better or newer than what he has.
Now the cam, I think the 5.2L has a higher lift for a more agressive cam. His better off with his cam, so he might want to invest into better cam, or just buy a new chain if your that far into the engine.

Message: Hey anthony, that 206 cam and 1.7 rocker combo doesn't cause interference problems?
How well does it work?
I'm getting the 1.7's soon and would be interested in that cam if I could add it later!

Message: It's been running good so far, I bet she would of had problems by now if I did have interference. I've had her up to 5250 many times already. I'll have to get me a PP3 soon to let it rip even higher. I also don't seem to have any problems with the R/T heads with the pushrods holes not being big enough for the angle of 1.7RR.
Yes, It works great. I can't see using any high duration cam on a truck of this weight without getting a higher torque converter or higher gears.
She takes off quite quick with her 3.92 gears then it dips some around 2500 when her gears ratio advantage give way then the motor takes over and is all uphill from there! She doesn't let up until redline.
I have some pictures on my site

Message: Anthony G,
Nice truck and site.
Have you raced your truck or dynoed it?
If so what did you get power/et's from your different mods? I would have though since you have a 5.9 that the cam would have given you better low-end than you said. I was think of getting a cam and thought the 206 was a little on the safe side(i.e. no lose of TQ) for my 5.2. Do you think it was the addition of the heads and manifold that is the limiting factor for the cam in your truck?
P.S. When do you think you'll have the video's on the site running? The video on the other post is SWEET!!!

Message: the magnum heads are good but when you use 2.02 they tend to shrowd bad because the chamber is to small. unless they cleaned the chamber up on the r/t heads i wonder if there is a real flow improvement. the stock heads cant reliably be fitted with oversize valves because they might hit water aswell.
