I can't seem to find one carb certified intake for a 2002 4.7 liter. Neither the volant or k&n have carb certification for 2002, only up to 2001. This is pretty pathetic if you ask me. Does anyone know of a decent carb certified intake for a 2002 (I live in Cali and am trying to stay legit so no homebrew)?

Check out the airmax intake by street and performance electronics. I think there's is. Nice looking intake with a heat sheild. performancecombos.com has them for sale and a few others do as well.

Ian,
I have a 2002 w/ a 4.7L and I just put the Volant Cold Air Intake in it. It is CARB certified.

I used the 26847 on my 2000 and it works mighty nice. Sounds like an old 70's Cop Car when you stomp on it. And it looks nice & clean for about half the price of a Z-Tube.

Thanks alex. You don't happen to have any pictures of this install on your truck do you? If so, would you mind e-mailing them to me? Thanks again!

Nope, but here's their install shot. Looks pretty much the same except for the 70 mm TB and the amber fire fender wells/firewall. ahahhaa

PS- the Volant tube is almost the exact saem diameter as the 70 mm F&B. No need for that 4" Z-Tube which isnt' being offered any more (according to Bernd's site).......

Justin, I just re-read your mods... you've still got the drop-in filter in the stock box. When you put that Volant tube on and take it out the first time on US 78, you'll poop your pants. It howls like a monster!! hahahahaha

I've gotten used to it, but when I first put it on, I couldnt' stop flooring it just to hear it again & again......

Totally off the subject. I have an Airaid currently on my 4.7. I'm looking to replace it, however in reading all the posts on this sight with regards to intakes, I have no idea which one I should get, 360 Intake, Z-Tube, Volant? Any input?

I've looked into the Carb requirements myself (I live in California). Like you've stated, K$N and Volant are the only intakes that carry the Carb certification sticker.

Even though the above items carry the certification for the 2000's, I have not installed the tube (just a K$N drop-in) because, according to many posts, they don't work that well on the 4.7's for the money paid. The reasoning behind this is that the stock 4.7 unit is already very efficient and any further modifications are a waste of money.

The people that sell them on this site say they work great. The people who bought them say they're not that good.

Since we Californians have only the two most expensive brands to choice from (smog regulations), I would appreciate any recent input from non-sellers regarding any reasonable increases in mpg, horsepower or torque that will verify what many performance retailers claim.

Do they take away low-end torque from the 4.7's like many past posts have claimed?

Again, from what I've read they don't look that promising.

4.7 auto, CC, 3.92LS, Leach "Flash", 3" Gibson single-out, mobil 1, K&N drop-in, redline rear-end fluid ( installing my HO cams, autolite plugs, RS T-stat next week).

It cost me $215 shipped from truckperformance.com but they had to drop ship it, so it took about 3-4 weeks to make it out to me.

It picked up my quarter mile times about .10 with the flap removed and that's about 5-8 hp. I also got about 1 more mpg on the highway. I don't really know who or why there have been claims of lost bottom end?? All I know is, if you want a really effective intake flow, you have to get rid of that corrugated flex-hose that's from the factory. Every one of those ridges is a loss in flow, so the smoother the tube, the better you are. The Volant took about 20 minutes to install and I've been happy ever since.

Just as a note, NO aftermarket intake tube is going to give you more than about a 5-8 hp gain. Period. Not on these trucks. You have to search elsewhere on the motor to get big power gains. That's just physics.

Cool alex. I love the sound of my truck with the exhaust as it is. Can't imagine it any better sounding, but I know it'll make it howl like a wolf. Thanks again!

I'm selling a K&N CAI off of a 4.7. Uses the stock airhat, and lower half of the airbox. Make me an offer, I'll let it go cheap. I've got pics of the intake, just ask. BTW, this is NOT a homebrew!
