Subject: G-tech runs with intake mods IP: Logged
Message: I'm playing with different mods going to and from the stock box. Also posted this on performance page
Run #1:
Removed rubber peice next to radiator, removed 90 degree elbow from front of air box going to wheel well, and attached funnel like object to front of box which was shielded from radiator heat. Used K&N drop in. Stock Airhat and stock tube going to airhat.
Note: my 0-60 test area has a slight uphill to it up to about 50 mph. Not good for low times, but good for the sake of comparison
0-60: 10.2, 9.6, and 9.93
#2
Replaced (went back to)stock parts. K&N drop in as only intake mod.
0-60: 9.65, 10.08, 9.5
#3
Modified from box to Throttlebody. Removed stock air hat and tube leading to it. Replaced with Fernco rubber 90 degree bend to TB and PVC tube to box. Elbow in front of box left in place. Reset PCM.
0-60: 9.87, 9.72, 9.56
There doesn't appear to be any material difference, and the truck ran better stock than with the elbow on the front of the box removed. I'll probably put the funnel back on the front of the box just to cover all the bases, but these little mods don't seem to be worth the time or the hassle.

Message: Will, to see any difference in your tests you have to make the mod you want to test, drive around with it for a few days with a very heavy foot so the PCM can learn what the hell is going on with the change to the engine. Then go and do your 0-60 test again and I bet you'll get better results.

Message: kicker-
Run 1 was after driving in that set-up for about a week after a PCM reset.
Run 2 was a switch back to stock without reseting. Note that it was still the fastest group.
Run 3 the PCM was reset, given a chance to idle, driven hard for about 10 min and then run 0-60. I'll try run 3 again in a day or so cause I haven't changed it yet.
Teamfast- if given a choice between a dyno or a G-tech, I'll take a dyno. If I have to pay for it, I'll take a G-tech. I only have about 11 0-60 runs so far, but I think it is a good way to check the mods you make to see if they make any difference. It is easy to use. I haven't weighed my truck yet, so I don't have any horsepower numbers.
