I am installing a 360 in place of my 318 in my 94 dakota, and i am told that the 360 is externally balanced, how do i go about balancing the 360 economically, and where is a good place to get parts? eg. the flywheel is $1000.00

when swapping to a 360, you will have to use a stock 360 harmonic balancer and get a flexplate from B & M. its a counter balanced flexplate that works ust fine. as long as ur truck is an auto?? i hope it is. this is the setup i have on my 360 right now. lemme know what other help u need. ill be more than happy to shed some light on tha subject.

I got a quote of about $300 to internally balance a 360. Then you can use your 318 balancer and flexplate or flywheel.

A 318 is internally balanced so the 318 flywheel is a "zero balanced" flywheel. If you get your 360 internally balanced, and you use a 318 flywheel, then you don't need to get that flywheel balanced. Because it's a zero balance piece, you'd be all set - since you internally balanced your motor. When you internally balance a 360, you are adding weight to the crank that you otherwise would have added to the flywheel if you had left the motor externally balanced.
