Message: The old 361 is a big block design. Lots of fabrication and different trans. Lots of easier more powerful ways.

Message: There is a aftermarket company out there that sells a kit for putting a BB in a Gen III Dakota. It might serve your purpose, but I think it is more targeted at putting a High HP block in a race/off road truck therfore I'd assume it'll probably be expensive. The other alternative is a motor plate or "Elephant Ears" mount that attaches to the front frame rails and sandwiches between the front of the block and the waterpump or something like that. My guess is that either way the fabrication will out expense rebuilding a 360LA. Maybe you could e-bay the 361 to a restorer and use the funds to build up a clean junkyard 360 block.
Patience is thee key to your dilemma and too few "punk kids" can accept that. I must admit though too few punk kids share your self-awareness. ;-)
