Subject: 5.9L Dies Sometimes When Starting IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota with the 5.9 engine. One morning, about 3 weeks ago, when I started the truck it immediately started then died. I restarted it and it died again. The third time I feathered the pedal to keep it running and after about 30 seconds it ran fine. This has happened about 6 times in the past 3 weeks. I have had the truck in the shop 3 times and they can find no problem. Has anyone with this engine had this problem or know of someone who has? If so, what was the fix. Thanks for any help.

Message: I had the same problem. Turned out to be a loose connection at the battery so it wasn't charging properly.

Message: Battery woudl be my guess as well. Make sure youdon't have any electrical components that are draining your battery when the truck isn't running, and check the battery conections, and all ground wire conection under the hood.
