Subject: New 4.7 Owner IP: Logged
Message: Hi, Folks. I just bought an '02 RC 4.7 SLT 5-speed with 3.55 gear and the "regular" (smaller) tire/wheel package. Next step was to find this place! Today I had the stock muffler replaced with a straight through Thrush, 2.5" ID, 24" body length. I love the sound. Now what would be the next 2 or 3 "cheap & easy" mods for increasing performance? Chip? K&N drop in? Synthetic lubricants? I'll be looking for 14.5 ETs on a tight budget (if possible). Thanks!

Message: Don't put in a chip--supposedly its a waste of money. I'd go with a K & N FIPK to open up the intake side, and I've heard the new 4.7 HO cams make a huge difference. I don't know what your "tight" budget is, but these should get you started.

Message: You can remove your clutch fan (free mod). I would agree with getting the HO cams; not very expensive, and the results sound great from what I've read on the board. Maybe you could get some 3.92's? A larger throttle body? It depends on how much you can spend. I've found that one mod usually leads to another... you open up the exhaust a little then you have to mod the intake to get full advantage of the exhaust. Before you know it you've spent about $1000 but you still wanna do more! Check out Speedtweaks website, they have some cheap performance tricks listed there. Have fun.

Message: Fixing the cat is a big one, but the ways to fix it are up to you. It can be a real cheap mod with a sure noticable difference in the butt-dyno.

Message: Okay, "no" on the chip. If I do the K&N thing I should do the FIPK. I won't play with the engine internals for a while (no cams). Remove clutch fan. I was told that 3.55 gears (with the smaller tires) equal 3.92 gears with the bigger tires. True? And what's this about bypassing the CAT?
It sounds like getting to 14.5 might require engine mods. I was hoping not. It "felt" like low to mid 15s when I bought it.
One more thing. I have read a lot of confusing info about the truck's curb weight. One source says only 3400 lbs. but others say much more. Again, mine is RC with stick and small tires.
Thanks for all the help! :-)

Message: if it came with the 15" wheel and tire package,
the OAD is still 27 or so inches. your 3.55
gears are 3.55 gears. there are quite a few
people who ran mid to high 14's with the stock
regular cab 5spd LS 3.92 setup. make it
breath, and keep it cool, switching to a 180
stat, is a very inexpensive mod also.

How are those HO cams? I've been thinking about picking them up, but I'm not sure due to warranty and installation issues...Thanks.

Message: Greg,
I done the cams a couple weeks ago and like what I got. It was not real hard, and I documented it in pictures. You can see these pictures here at this page, Cam replacement
If you decide to do it good luck and enjoy.

Message: Yates-
Thanks for the info-nice pics. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to do this for the price. Oh, a few weeks ago you (i think it was you) asked who lived in Chico, CA and I was curious as to why. I live here in Chico, a student at Chico State but couldn't reply because I wasn't registered. Thanks again.

Message: I'm glad I can help, or give you other ideas. I paid $180 for both cams. Cheapest power I've put in yet.
That's where Jeff was posting from, Chico. Just trying to get an IP to real name correlation. It's no big deal, guy/girl not sure, which is not posting the dumb stuff any more. I'm glad; I'm all for opinions from different people, but can do without the ugly pictures. I see no problem with Jeff arguing with people, I think it's healthy to here others thoughts and ideas on things, helps us base or own opinions of the topic, but Name-calling, profanity and nasty pictures doesn't help prove a valid point.

Message: It's hard to believe this Jeff anus was posting from Chico. Since CSU-Chico has one of the best Computer Science Departments' in the nation it would be relatively easy to the gain computer knowledge to screw with a website. However, most people here are intelligent and pretty mellow not anal retentive and vindictive. It's sad and very strange.
