Message:
Can u buy a 2003 R/T or any R/T that has a manual transmission. On the dodge website they basically showed me the automatic transmission was mandatory and i couldn't change it to manual. Thanks for any help.

the R/T is not available with a manual trans.
try the 4.7 5 speed with the 3.92 limited slip.
should be just as fast, but doesnt have the
R/T appearance package (17" wheels, 1"
lower and sway bars) this will probably ignite
a huge list of "4.7 vs 5.9" arguments, but as
we can all see, the 5.9 has seen its day. it is
slowly, but surely being replaced.

Well, of course a 4.7L guy will tell you to get
the 4.7. If you really want a manual tranny, then
go with what the man says, but as a 2001 RT owner,
I would suggest you go with the 5.9. I'm not
talking bad about the 4.7, but...My RT is lightly
modded (intake and exhaust stuff only), but I
recently raced a lightly modded 4.7 whose owner
said he had intake and full exhaust. We were even
after first gear, but as soon as I hit 2nd I
steadily pulled ahead, and by the time I hit 90,
he was a good 8 lengt

Don't listen to Chris, that is just one race. A person who would derive a conclusion from one unconstant test is foolish.

If you want an R/T it's going to have to be an auto. Auto is fine for most people, but if your heart is set on a manual transmission, you can get a killer 4.7 setup. The price difference is just enough where you can drop the truck, change hoods, roll pan, and bumper to give it an aftermarket or R/T appearance.

The 4.7s suck for any type of aftermarket though. There should be a lot more stuff coming out, but we'll see. The R/Ts have more toys than most people can afford. This gives you lots of options.

If you do a search you can find an insane amount of threads on this very subject. Most of them get down right aggressive.

What are the differences between the '02 & '03
R/Ts? Any changes in Horsepower or torque?

The '03 R/T's have already been out for a month , I drove one on 9/5 and it was part of the 2nd shipment. It was pretty sweet - Graphite Club cab with leather ,Chrome wheels and 4 wheel discs - sticker was a little stiff though , a bit over $29,000 and the dealer was holding on the price - a bit to rich for my blood , I may pick one up in 2 years when it's about $15,000 though.

Base sticker on an R/T is now $22,800 (invoice about $20,865 not counting any advertising.) You get a lot more stuff standard on the R/T then in years past but now it looks like the 3.55 gears are standard and you gotta pay an extra $40 for the 3.92s. I'm not positive on this but if I were thinking about getting a 2003 I'd sure make sure it had the 3.92's for a mere $40. Once the rebates start hitting the 2003's you should be able to get an R/T new for under $20,000. That has crept up from about $17,000 in 2001 but now you get more standard: 4 wheel discs, a bed cover, chrome wheels, and A/C. Later when they add those ground effects on, "standard", I bet they tack on another $500-$700 on the base price.

After a run through Dodge's website it does look like 3.92's are still standard on the R/Ts
