Subject: H.O. cams will void my warranty!

Damn dealer!!
I called my dealer to see what the labor would be to put in my cams and intake that I got off the group buy and the first time (last Friday) they told me that they would call back with the price, they never called!!!!! Next try, I called on Monday, after being on hold for over 10 mins, I told them what I wanted and asked for a price, and the lady I was talking to had no clue what she was doing. I finally got tranfered to the owners daughter, who I guess is in charge of the service department, she asked what my truck was and everything, then she asked how many miles on it, oh great! I could see it coming already, then she said it would void my warranty, and the way that worked on warranty items, everything has to stay stock. I told her the cams an intake were stock parts and also told her about the law that say unless a certain part can be proved to have caused a problem, you can't void my warranty!!!!!!!!! I was pissed to say the least. Then she wanted to know if I wanted to call Chrysler? huh? why the hell would I want to talk to them? Any way I had to vent, sorry about the long post, but now what? I don't have the tools, the time or the space to do the job myself, if I could, and I don't know anybody that could, and where I am at, (in northern Michigan) there isn't Shiz for performance shops to do these kinds of things. Help!!!!!!!!! Anybody have any ideas or suggestions I would be greatfull

thanks,

Don't go to the service counter! That's just gonna get your warranty voided..... you gotta go hang out by the service bay doors and try to find a technician who's not too busy and talk to him directly. The best time to do this is about 6 pm when they are almost all gone, but he is still there working on some busted-ass Intrepid. More than likely this is the guy who likes to do work on the side and will hook you up on a Saturday or soemthing. You just have to tell him that you are willing to pay him cash and that you are willing to work on his schedule.

If he wont' hook you up, ask him WHO WILL?

I consider myself pretty competent with tools and mechanics and all but the though of changing cams intimidated the hell out of me... This is my pride and joy... this is daily transportation... I need this truck.... but ya know what...

All you need is some sockets, borrow a torque wrench, buy the wedge tool (or make one) and take your time... It took me the full 4hours plus, so plan on 6-8 hours... have a bud help you as 2 memory's are better than paper and have at it... for the cost of the pizza the dealer don't know squat and you are hauling a55 jsut a few hours later...

The HO Cams and intake absolutely DO NOT VOID THE FACTORY WARRANTY! Once again a service desk person talks out their ass instead of knowing the damn laws! The Southeastern DC service rep (when I spoke to him here in GA) specifically asked his manager whether or not these items would void the factory warranty when installed on an '00-'03 Dakota with the 4.7L. The answer was a resounding no. Since the parts are produced by MOPAR, and are specifically produced for the 4.7L Dodge/Jeep engines, they can not void the warranty. Now if you screw something up while installing them yourself, then whatever you damage will be your responsibility to pay for/replace. Never ask the dealer service desk what their opinion on consumer law is. They wouldn't be working in a dealer service department if they could legally answer such questions. God, service people piss me off so much sometimes. Thank God for Metro Dodge in Snellville. These guys kick butt!!

VOID WARRANTY!!! last week I changed the cams in my 4.7. WOW!!! What a large gain in performance. I have a home ported TB, Gibson headers, Gibson side exhaust, K/N home brew COLD intake, .88 dc volts on TPS. When I did my cams the truck came to life. It is like a completely new truck. I would recomend the cams to everybody. When I removed the factory cams from the pedistals it is held in, there were metal burrs on the sides from when the factory bored the pedistals. This is piss poor workmanship on the machine shop`s end. BE CAREFUL when removing your old cams & look for this, I had to debur the pedistalls my self. Or the small burs of metal would eventualy end up in the engine & that would not be good. & their worried about us installing cams & voiding the warranty. It`s all about WORKMANSHIP. Have a good one.DB

Hey Demon, what part of Atlanta do you live in? I graduated from Ga Tech last May, 2001. I'm in Houston now, love the water. Anyway, I was doubting that the HO Cams were still warranteed, but I know for sure, unless an authorized Chrysler Technician installs the Cams, you're warranty is voided. Good thing is if you do it right, a self install is virtually undetectable. I need to get my exhaust on so I can see what these bad boys are capable of.

Damn Little Debbie, hate typing with one hand. Snacky cakes...

I just had my cams installed.

Info:
If you get them installed at the dealership, you pay the dealership time, 4 hours is install time for the cams, but the dealership for a fully loaded truck chargers for 6.5 hours. Total cost $500.
