Subject: Rough Idle, 4.7L HO Cams, fix??
IP: Logged

Message:
I have about 200 miles on my HO Cams, self install. It runs smoothly at every rpm except idle. Stock it idled very smoothly and after amsoil was really quiet. I am gonna check my oil level later, but the pressure is normal. Does anyone else HO Cammed 4.7L have a rough idle. I figured this might be the nature of the cam since its lopey, but then again it comes in a luxury SUV in no way should have a lumpy idle. Thanks

I would love to have much more aggrisive cam. If it will idle on it's own and raw gas is not flowing out the exhaust pipe the cam is too small!! Seriously I would love to have a loppy sound that all of my older engine had with big cams. If KRC ever offers their cams at a realistic price I will get a set. THeir current price is a bit steep for me. Hell I can buy Vtec cams for a Honda for less.

I guess you'll be missing out then Sandman, that kit is new cores (2), ground with lobes that cost me $1200 each for ownership, machined lash caps, and new springs with better over the nose pressures for following the cams. Add that up and you will see there is no room for profit in there. The average 4.6 mustang cam(s) alone run $900, thats cams alone. On another note, the mod motors usually do not lope even with 218 degrees as a pushrod motor does. It doesn't get anymore realistic in price than that.

That's great you guys responded and all. But what does any of that $hit have to do with my poor idle? Guess I should have just emailed CW in the first place....

Removing all the lines above may have opened a vac line, check them out. The HO cams are a very smooth idle.

What kind of plugs are in it? What kind of gap? My truck idled terribly when I tried running cooler plugs. When I switched back to the standard heat range plugs it idled much better. Now with the Bosch injectors and the stock heat range plugs it idles perfectly.

Check your plugs and coil connections as well as the connectors on the injectors.

I have the 3923's with stock gap, .040 I believe. I will look for lines today, but like I said before, it runs really good at every other rpm. Doesn't seem to be much power gain, but I still have stock exhaust. I never threw away my factory spark plugs. They have 10K miles on them, should I retry those or get new stock heat range plugs, 5224's?
Thanks for the pertinent info

My 4.7 does idle smooth but louder (exhaust). When the A/C is on and it is idling you can hear the difference.

Since the 5224s are only about a dollar a piece, I would just get some new ones.
