I was wondering what would be faster a GMC Sierra 5.3L 1999 or 2000 Dodge Dakota Wuad Cab 4.7L both stock my firend keeps braggin how much hisis faster stock and wont race me? He thinks the dodge Dakota's only 97mph like the GMC what it the topspeed stock on a Dodge Dakota 2000 4.7L?

Probably a close race, but if both vehicles are equally equipped and have near the same gear ratio, I would give the nod to the GM. Some Dakota's top out at 98 and some at like 110-120.

I don't know about the 4.7, but in an issue of four wheeler magazine they said that the 97' 5.2 cc 4x4 dakota they tested, "didn't have a limiter at least none that kicked in at 110mph".

Talk is cheap!!! Only way to realy find out is to race. If he gives you lip tell him "Talk is Cheap". I am sure you can find a Chevy to race you. It realy is not hard. You pull up to a light rev your engine while stareing at the other guy or gal raise an eye brow and point down the road. They will normaly acknoldge your challange and the race is on! I am going to warn you right know that you will need to have your engine reved up to about 2500 RPM and brake applied before you take off and floor it. THe 5.3 makes it's torgue lower in the power band then our 4.7 so it will take you off the line if you are not careful. It is much better to take the lead and hold it then to try to make it up in the end. The 4.7 realy needs to have a beefeier cam, better intake and a higher rev limit to make up for it's lack of displacement. The engine has great potential it just needs a little massageing.

Merely passing a Chevy truck with a big Bow Tie sticker in the back window makes them speed up. I don't know what is going through these people's minds. It appears only the ones with the windshield banners and emblem stickers on the back do this.

A buddy of mine has a '98 CC with a 3.9.
He often encounters the situation that Xplikt, just mentioned. Well, he really can't accelerate with them, so he stays just behind them, and when the Chevies hit their speed limiters, he pulls up next them, waves, and motors right on by!
That really ticks them off.

My dad has a 99' silverado with the 5.3 and it's no slouch. He'd wax my ass with the quickness. Then again I have an extra axle and an extra 1000lbs. Oh and I have a 97' cc 5.2 4x4 and there WAS a top end limiter at 115mph. It no longer has one. :D

I would say u could take the chevy just cas he weighs more. I have R/T reg cab and spanked lots o chevys 5.3 or 4.8. All I have done is FIPK II and cat-back. My bro has a gmc reg cab with a 4.8 and I smoke him bad every time. There is a regency conv. w/5.3 in my neiborhood and has same mods as me but,I still when by 3 car lengths.

As suspected, I have to raise the BS flag on another spouting fool. The Dakota QC does not weigh anywhere close to 6000lbs.
Length: 215.1 in.
Width: 71.6 in.
Height: 65.6 in.
Weight: 4244 lbs. <--------------(1756 less)
Wheel Base: 131 in.
Ground Clearance: 7.8 in.

My RC R/T weight is 3950 on the title, after hard cover & bed liner I would say 4100lbs and with me 4315 Lbs. So Unless you have pulled up to a silo area with a scale or a truck stop and weighed it, I don't doubt a QC might be around the 5000+lb area in a 4x4 setup.
I'll race that Chebby rock in 1/4 mile. Unless it's a lingenfelter's setup that puts down mid 13's I'm not worried.

c.c. r/t with myself (280 Lbs.), toolbox (60 Lbs.) spare tire and all that stuff, rhino lining (about 60 lbs im told), mtx with sony subs (about 60 lbs)at the track's scale weighed 4525 lbs...and i only ran 15.6...saaaad.
anyway, 'todd' you dont know what youre talking about. go to a real scale.

The site lists 2002 Dakota Quad Cab specs.
They list the GVWR for the 4x4 Quad Cab at
6010 lbs.
GVWR, Todd, is the weight of the truck at
MAXIMUM PAYLOAD, not empty curb weight.
The standard payload for the Quad 4x4 is
1,530 lbs.
I'll do the math for you Todd, 6010 minus 1530
equals 4,480 lbs, which is the empty weight of
your truck.
BTW, the wheel base IS (for all practical
purposes) the same for the QC and CC 4X4.
The CC wheelbase is 131.2" and the QC is
131.1".
The overall length for the CC is 215.1" and the
QC is 215.0".
Please check the web site for yourself, but
then again, Daimler Chrysler probably doesn't
know what they are talking about, they
probably forgot to check with you, Todd.
BTW, I think the Chev. would win.

I have a 01 cc RT. My trucks weight is 4100
pounds. I absolutely annihilated a 5.3 4x4 a few
months ago. The guy tried to race me. It was
very boringfor me, but maybe you 4.7 guys would
have fun. Also 6000 pounds is way wrong unless
you are a fat ass.

I don't know where you got your numbers for the QC weight. I think you are looking at the GVWR of the vehicle, NOT the CURB WEIGHT. The curb weight of my 02 QC 4.7/AT 2WD is 4179lbs. The GVWR (what you are looking at) is 6010lbs. The curb weight is the total weight of the vehicle. Recheck your numbers rookie and learn how to check your facts. Lets see how many mistakes you made in that last msg alone...
1. There is no 350 in any "Xtreme"
2. Who in there right mind would bother with swapping out the 6 for a 350 in a truck that ugly?
3. How are we supposed to assume that you are truthful about owning a swapped out LT1 "Xtreme" when you cant even spell your own trucks name?
4. I'm not knowledgable of this 5.8 R/T you keep making reference too... please enlighten us.

James my suggestion to you is for you to continue driving your Chevy Sierra 5.3 and use it for things like hauling as opposed to racing it against lighter more powerful sport trucks.
