I own a 2000 dakota quad 4.7 L, engine light came on, tech's have narrowed the field to a missfire in cylinder 7, they haven't yet been able to solve the issue. anyone else had the problem? Started with missfire code, now have 3 others but techs not done yet. Help:)

Prolly something simple

I have gotten misfire codes on mine a number of times. There's a 95% probability that it's one of these three simple things. It's either been the plugs, injectors or the coils every time. If it's under warranty - let the dealer find the problem. If it's not then you will have to diagnose it yourself.

You'll have to reset the PCM first, otherwise the codes stays in there and you won't know if you fixed it.

Replace the plugs and see if the misfire code goes away. Make sure the little contact tip is on the end of the plug tightly. If it's not it will build up carbon in there from arcing and the resistance will cause the misfire. If the code doesn't return then it was just a bad plug. If it returns - then continue....... reset the PCM and try the next step.

If you know it's the #7 cylinder that's misfiring - swap the coil with the one from #1. If the misfire code jumps to #1 then you know it's the coil. If it doesn't jump then you know the coil is OK. Reset the PCM and go to the next step.

Swap the injectors from one cylinder to the other - the same routine as the coils.

If one of those three things doesn't point out the problem then you will have to perform a compression test to see if it's something more serious.

Thank you for the information, I have already covered most of that and will pursue the rest. That was very informative. I have only had the truck for 2 months so..this is kinda a pain haha.
