Subject: Gas IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering, recently i was reading through the owners manual, and it says there that, for the 4.7 liter motor (my motor), that only use gas with the rating of 87. DO NOT use higher, because it can cause more damage towards sensors. Now I have always using high test in my previous trucks. Should I use regular in this truck. It is a 2002 dodge dakota 4.7 liter. I am not looking for a hot rod, or some economical advantages. What is best for the truck? Not for the performance or for the better gas mileage..
Thanks
Steve

Message: If your truck runs ok (no detonation) on 87, then I would just use that.

Message: i ran the 87 for 2 years .. i found that after a while that i had a idleing problem .. but after i learned how to reset the pcm .. the problems have gone away .. // on the gas note .. i have tried a couple of tanks of the good stuff.. and noticed a huge difference .. after 2 years and 100,000 kms .. but i remember when i first got the truck i tried a couple of tanks of the good stuff .. no preformance gain or difference that i noticed at all .. but after 2 years and 100,000 kms the stuff makes the truck run better .
My reccomendation for you .. run the reg gas for now unless you are going to mod the truck .. for power .. ( hp ) once you start gaining more then 50 hp from mods try running a better grade fuel .. NEVER use the mom and pop shops .. ( have heard some scarry things about them ..Gas related only .. )
Hope this helps ..
