 Subject: Damn engine light again

My check engine light came on again on the way home, I know it's the gas cap again because last night I went to get gas but only put in a couple dollars worth (1/4 tank) and that caused it before. Is there any way I can clear the pcm and get the engine light to go off withOUT going to a dealer? Damn thing won't turn off..

Dude,
All you have to do ..
Truck Off
1. disconnect the neg term .. leave on ..
2. turn the key to the on start possition and hold for 30 sec .
3. reconnect he net terminal .. this works great for me when i have been F$%$ with the truck and the engine light comes on ..

The only problem with diconnecting the battery. It takes about 250 miles for the computer (OBD II)to relearn. Not a big deal. But just so you know. I did it myself for the same reason, and also for upgrades done. Your light will go bye bye.

I can't afford to mod it, so I won't lose anything during the relearning anyway really :)
I wasn't sure if that would turn off the light, good thing tho :)
Just out of curiosity, does the check engine light EVER represent anything serious? Usually it's things like evap leak, bad O2 sensor....nothing you can't live without fixing, what's the point of even having it?

ya some times it does .. but if you have been f$%$ with the truck it is just probly just what everyou did ..
I have the evap leek once .. i tried the reset thing i couple of times .. gave up after the light came on 4 times in a row and i put back mods that i had done at that time to stock .. took it to the dealer .. and told them the engine light just came on ..

disconnecting the battery will not reset it permenently.it will come back again.take it to autozone,they have a diagnostic computer to plug in and can reset it for free!......i took my cap off to releive the pressure when installing nitrous and forgot to put it back on before i started it.i took it in to them.good as new.

Fill it up turn gas cap until it clicks at least 6 times after about 40 miles mine went out and did not come back on.

Resetting the computer does work. And the light won't come back on unless something is wrong, I did it over 2000 miles ago, and nothing. TRUST ME, if there is no problem, then it will be fine.
