Subject: Mopar perf. Aluminum heads for 5.9 IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone tried the Aluminum Heads from Mopar Performance on their R/T? I am thinking of either getting the stock casting aluminum heads or the aluminum heads with the 2.02 intake valves designed for the 5.9 magnum? What do you think?

Message: Too expensive and not worth the extra effort. Unless you're running high rpm's and are producing a sh-tload of heat (Turbo or Supercharger running 12+#'s boost), the Mopar Performance "R/T" heads will perform just fine. (In stock form, the MP "R/T" heads easily outflow a set of ported factory 5.9L heads...modified "R/T" heads flow even more.)
You'll also want to keep the intake valve size at 1.92" or 1.97" to keep the powerband useable on the street and (for supercharged or nitroused engines)...upgrade the exhaust valve to the 1.65". If you plan on running the 2.02" intake valve heads, be prepared to bog down on the bottom end...unless you have a blower to compensate and some shorter gears (4.10...prefer 4.56:1) and/or a 2600+ stall converter.

Message: What year is your Durango? I would also opt to stick with the performance R/T heads and not the aluminium heads because they flow better.

Message: The R/T heads come in cast iron or aluminum. The stock heads on the Durango or Dakota R/Ts are only cast iron. The performance R/T heads, regardless of material (iron or aluminum), will flow equally. If your huge on lower heat and weight then get the aluminum R/T heads.
