Subject: missing ? IP: Logged
Message: have a 97 dakota 5.2l automatic. truck was running fine all day. then when i went to leave saturday night, truck was missing like it was only running on 6 cylinders or so. check engine light came on. when i would go slow the light would stay on but once i got moving it would go out but still ran like crap. threw a code 43 (multiple cylinder misfire). changed distributor cap, rotor button, put old plugs and wires back on (was still good just changed for the hell of it) and still runs like crap. any ideas? need truck bad.

Message: Check the coil, and maybe even the distributor itself.

Message: Did it start missing after you switched the wires?
It sounds like the wires may be out of order. Check the firing order (mine was stamped on the intake manifold, 5.9) and make sure your spark plug wires are plugged into the distributor cap in that order. The distributor cap has a "1" stamped on it to mark the location of the #1 cylinder spark plug wire. Follow the wires around clockwise from the #1 wire and make sure the wires are plugged in the same order as the firing order.
(Did anyone understand that?)

Message: Dakaty I got you. Hey jimc did you change wires? The way I read it you put the old ones back on.
First follow Dakaty's advise.
Then check the wires for shorts.

Message: I didn't do anything when it started missing. I put the plugs and wires on a couple of months ago and it ran fine after. The truck ran fine all day saturday then saturday night started it to go home and it missed. I thought maybe i had a bad plug or wire so i put the old ones back on sunday. Same thing. new distributor cap, rotor, coil and still same exact thing. The only code is 43.
