Subject: Important info HO cam & intake owners IP: Logged
Message: I found a little info for the HO cam and intake folks. Didn't know if anyone is aware of this, but the HO 4.7 for the Jeep uses special platium tip spark plugs that are only available through the dealer. This may help people experiencing pinging, knock or missing problems. I have my cams and intake, but haven't been able to install them cause of the damn rain! Shop is to messy to put the truck in there. Also I think I'll go ahead and order them before I do the install, just to be on the safe side.
Hope this info helps, I'll post more info on the plug type when I find the page again.
Thanks,
Michael

Message: One more question to ponder. Are the coils that are over the plugs different also? I will find out. If there are differences I might check on group buy prices for the coils and plugs. I will post as I get more info.

Message: Ed do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge? If you do you should have right on about 50psi all the time full throttle or not. That is kinda what I was thinking as well was fuel. Didn't accidently pinch the fuel line or anything like that?

Message: No, I don't, but I'm gonna take it in to my dealer next week to have him go over it with the scan tool to pay attention to the psi as well as the air/fuel ratio. He's cool, a hot rodder like me with a 12 sec Mustang 5.0 conv. Another thing, I noticed that the truck sounds a bit different as well since the cam swap, and once I hit 4000, the tone changes, like it's starving, choking, and at 5, it just gasps and doesen't move at all. Pinging comes if I crack the throttle, and at about 2500 rpm, light/moderate throttle, even with NOS octane boost, 89 gas, and with or without the JET 2 in. Another twist, so far, it seems like my mpg is un-affected by this. All we did with the fuel rails was un-bolt them and lift a bit to get the covers off, they didn't even come out of the holes all the way. If anyone wants to IM me with more info, my user is olznut.

Message: The HO 4.7 from the Jeep does in fact use a special platinum tip spark plug that is only available through the dealer at this time. From what I gather there is a platinum rivet of some sort located at the tip. As soon as I get the part number for them I will post them as well as part numbers for the coils. I will be ordering mine monday. I will post details after the install as well as pics of the plugs.
If the damn rain ever lets up.

Message: I have all his mods and more from what I know and it never pings even on 87 octane. I even removed the clutch fan and it has gotten to 100+ here alot earlier this summer. Does kinda sound like it is starving for fuel.

Message: The Jeep does not use Bosch Platinum plugs, the HO 4.7 from the Jeep uses a specially designed platinum tip plug that is only currently available from the dealer. Here is tht part number Chrysler #SP0RC7PYCB4 and Champion #RC7PYCB4 once again these plugs are only currently available through the dealer.
I also found out that the ignition coils are the same for the HO and normal 4.7 .
Thanks,
Michael
PS. In case your wondering they cost $8.68 a piece. If anyone is interested I can get them for $6.68 a piece plus about $5.00 shipping through my guy over at mydodgeparts.com

Message: But here is my questions then:
On the 4.7 (non HO) the FSM states to not use platinum plugs, WIth the same COILS as the 4.7, the 4.7 HO uses a platinum plug. Am I hurting my truck by running platinums? It did run much better with these than with other plugs and I would like to keep them if I am not hurting naything.

Message: Look at the page I posted in the beginning. That is not your everyday original platinum tip plug. These are only available through chrysler. Call your dealer and ask for part numbers on the HO plugs, normal plugs and what the differences are. And think about the pinging issues that some people are having, that is why I posted this info. If that 4.7 HO runs well with those plugs then why shouldn't it improve on our 4.7. I would rather spend 6.28 a piece on them, than purchase an autolite, bosch 2+, 4+, or Irridium plugs.
HO heads are slightly different the valves are slightly larger along with some other changes, but the spark plug hole isn't one of the changes made.

I would recommend the Bosch over the Siemans injectors. I think that they provide much better atomization - which equates to better idle and off-idle throttle response.

Message: Yes. I would go with the 21# injectors with the NA 4.7s.... unless you go with ported heads , big TB and one of those new cams that are coming out.
I'm running 24#ers and the PCM trims them just fine in closed loop. Perfect starting, idle and cruise. I ran them on my truck when it was NA - and with all the mods they worked about perfect here in Phoenix. The truck pulled past 6k without any problems. The 24#s were just a little too much for my truck at altitude when NA. A plug check showed them to be a bit on the rich side in open loop even at 3075'. The over-rich condition knocked the rpm range back to about 5600 rpms there.
