I'm curious about this knock sensor business though ... it says the 4.7L has a knock sensor and the HO has two sensors!? this is news to me. I wonder if they are adaptable to our 4.7's ... also curious if the PCMs are interchangable at all ....
anyone?

Message: One more thing on the second sensor, from what I gather it was installed because of the increased compression of the 4.7 HO and the compression is increased due to dome pistons.

Message: Michael, I think your IAT sensor is a threaded
design. The HO intake has the 2001 sensor,
which is a twist and lock deal. I think DC was
worried about over torqueing the plastic
intake. You can go get a new 2001 sensor for
between $28-$44. Or relocate the one you
have to the Z tube, but then you need to plug
up the hole in the intake.

Message: The impression I got from the website that listed all the info was that the _Jeep_ 4.7L engine has a knock sensor .. I know we don't. (and the HO has two)
The reason I asked about the PCM is that it seems a lot more advance than ours... it says you _can_ run 87 octane if you want, but best performance is with 93 octane ... with the two knock sensors it would seem that the engine keeps the timing as far advanced as it can without pinging ... so if you have a lower octane gas, it'll retard the timing so you don't ping ... but you'll lose the hp. The WRX does the same thing.
I'd sure love to have that PCM in my truck.
Oh, BTW, Michael: how did you get around the IAT hole being different? I'm going to have to plug mine somehow, but haven't figured out with what yet.
PS LMAO at Michael's happy face character!

Message: You DO NOT need the platinum plugs mopar2ya, UNLESS you are swapping the heads as well. To do that, you'd really need the Jeep HO PCM as well, but we all know that's not going to work with our truck (not easily, anyway). I have the HO Cams and HO Intake as well as a 70mm TB, true duals, and soon the KB Optimizer II. I do run premium gas even though it's not needed. I've never had any type of pinging at any throttle or load in any atmospheric conditions. Oh yeah, I also use the Autolite 3923 plugs. I have plenty of power, good mileage (16.5 city and 21 hwy at 90 MPH sustained), and not one drivability issue. Take from that what you will.
2002 CC 4.7L Auto
Last dyno #'s
HP: 207.5
TQ: 268.6
Those numbers were BEFORE the HO Cams/Intake and BEFORE the 70mm TB. New numbers will be coming soon (hopefully).

Message: Demon I forgot to mention one more thing about the plugs, even if you do change the heads that still wouldn't justify a must have for the them. The only thing that would make them must have is if you changed the pistons over to the HO pistons which have a dome top that in turn increases the compression ratio and would require require that type plug. But like I said it would be a good option for those experiencing drivability issues.

You're right. I forgot about the pistons. But going to a hotter plug may not help out with pinging and such. Only a colder plug will (should, that is) totally solve that.

Message: Dude,
Been in a REAL - 1 of a kind 4.7HO R/T. Also coupled it to a 5 speed. As the 2 5.9's i took on Gratiot awhile. It was the most fun someone could have in a truck. If the grearing was better, had a 3.55, It would have given some of the C5 vettes a run for the money. Would have smoked a 5.7L 1500 2003 Ram.
Now for clarification. A REAL HO cosists of:
High flow heads
Knock Sensors
HO Cams
Intake and Exh .Springs
Steel Crank
HO Damper
Exh. Valves
HO Intake Manifold
Pop-Up Pistons
HO Resonator
Bigger TB
Increase C/R - due to pistons
Platinum Plugs
Special Engine Computer Calibration
The HO cams and Intake are will get you next to nothing. The intake has a different runner length, doesn't flow any more air. K&N FIP is a joke, won't help something in stock or HO form that isn't restricted. Check the exhaust system for your restriction. Cams without spring updates will leave you stranded, the base springs won't live long. Don't waste your money, the COMPUTER won't change calibrations, meaning you won't run optimized - meaning next to nothing in power or torque gains.
