Subject: I've got blackish smoke from pipes, help IP: Logged
Message: My pipes are spitting out some blackish smoke/exhaust when the throttle is hammered. I don't think I would mind this much except that there is only 8000 miles on the truck! Is this normal? I have a Gibson Cat back Split Rear exhaust, and a K&N drop in filter. Just wondering if i should be concerned.

Message: Sounds like it's running rich, which is better than running lean under WOT conditions. I think this is normal for most fuel injected vehicles.

Message: sounds like you are running on petrolium (cheap gasoline). rule of thumb to indentify smoke problems is: Black smoke (fuel related), Blue smoke (oil related), White smoke (water related).

Message: Have to clean my chrome tipped exhaust every couple days to prevent black soot build-up since truck was new. This is normal IMO just like brake dust although puffing blue or white smoke are a sign of repair IMO. As FYI, I religiously run Sunoco 89 octane with no ethanol(stated anyway), 93 or 94 octane did not change this phenomenon and I use WOT quite constantly:) so for me it should not be an carbon build-up issue:) All in all, probably just the crappy gas that all the petroleum refineries push on us and we have to live with. Also, I have tried octane booster for a few tankfuls, waste of $$ unless you are checking 1/4 times where it MAY make a minimal difference.
