Subject: Towing Question? IP: Logged
Message: I own a 2002 Dakota clubcab 4.7 5 speed. When I ordered the truck I ordered it without the tow package. My questions are, Even though I didn't oreder the tow package, are the wires for things like trailor lights and brakes there? If so where would I find them? I know the tow package comes with relays and fuses to install, Does anyone know of that kit is available from the dealer or aftermarket. I just bought a hitch and would like to start towing soon, so any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Message: I bought a hitch right after I buoght my QC. The dealership told me they could install a towing kit at any time, but they were a little pricy. I bought the hitch, and the four wire light plug that you can get at walmart or autozone. Later, I decided I needed brakes too. I got the trailer brakes, drum hubs, and controler from southwest wheels (www.brakecontroler.com) and wired it in myself. There is no harness to plug into. Just use the 4-wire for you light controls on the 6 or 7 way plug and run your brake wire back yourself. The wiring for the brake controler is pretty simple - power and ground both to the battery (don't try to ground a brake controler to the frame - use the battery) and a wire to the plug in the back, and a wire splice into the cold side of the brake light switch under the dash. It took me two hours to get a friend over to push on the brake peddle and hold a multi meter on a ground point so I could poke a wire, and it took about an hour and fifteen minutes to wire the whole thing in.

Message: I bought my hitch and harness at Pepboys who was cheaper then checkers or autozone for 265.00 includes 2"ball also. Next day I called U-Haul and they did it for 250.00 and installed it with the wire harness and everything. I saved 15.00 and saved blood on having them do it. Beautiful, I returned the other to Pepboys and picked up a sweeeet dodge emblem light that hooks up with the wire harness when i hit the breaks.

Message: I bought a receiver hitch for a full size chevy for $75.00... then I cut it down and welded it to be a hidden hitch. The receiver comes out right behind my license plate. When I'm not towing - nobody even knows I have one.

Message: If you are trying to sell me the hitch I appreciate it, but I already bought one. Thanks any way. By the way your truck looks awsome. One question. What type of gibson are you runnin? I have the split rear and had to modify it for the hitch. Also now my spare doesn't fit either. Thinking of dumping the split rear for the stcker with a flowmaster.

Message: This is an old post, but I've been looking high and low for some info, I have to wire up a 7 pin trailer connector to my 06 QC. Bought the OEM kit and got everything installed except for the blue wire through the firewall. I was hoping to find a good place to feed this through without drilling (also have to run a pos. and neg. to the battery for the brake controller) Does anyone have any suggestions, or is drilling a hole my best bet? Thanks a bunch for your help!

Message: I was able to run a couple wires through the same hole that my hood cable went through on my 91 dakota. Saved me the pain of drilling...
