 Subject: hard starting

I have a 97 dakota 5.2. Sometimes it is hard starting. other times it fires right up. you crank and doesn't start. let go of key, crank, then it fires up and runs rough then picks right up. Any ideas on what to start checking? thanks in advance

Fuel pump, it is a common problem. Try an aftermarket pump. They are less expensive and give a higher flow.
