Message: Brad,
How many miles do you have on your truck? As mine broke in the milage got better.
I to have the QC with 3.55's. A bed cover helped alot, you minght want to try that. Autolights 3923s also helped.

Message: I found that as my '02 passed 18k the mileage improved anywhere from and extra 20 to 50km out of a tank of gas-83L(and all city driving). Of course that depends on wheather your name is M. Piedlourde (Mr. Heavyfoot) in which case it just sucks up the petrol. You can almost see the needle go down when you mat it.

Message: I track my mileage very carefully... and I'm still getting around 12.8 MPG on my '02 QC auto 2WD w/the 3.92 city or towing (70MPH) on the highway. I even had the dealer "flash" the PCM at 12K to improve the low idle issue. I'm running Mobil 1 5W30 and increased the air pressure in the tires - no change to the mileage. The K&N air filter goes in next week after that it's back to the dealer. I want atleast 14MPG cause that's Dodge says I should get. The dealer says most his customers with the same truck get around 15-19MPG... but not me :(

Message: How accurate is the trip computer usually? Mine read 22.5(us) but I got about 19 mpg using mileage/gallons used on my last all hwy trip (68 mph). BTW I have an AWD 4.7 QC auto w/3.92. Do these figures make me a freak? I only have 1500 miles on it. I never bested 18 mpg with my 4.7 5spd QC.

Message: I have a new 2003 1500 QC with 20" wheels, 3.92 rear end, 5 speed auto, with a 4.7 V8. I have added a K&N filter. After 2500 miles all I can get out of this thing is about 12 city and 13 hwy. ALL American Dodge here in Midland Texas says that all I should get. But when I bought the truck they said it should get around 18 hwy after a few thousand mile. Bull $%#@! I have two friend with new dodge trucks. One has a Hemi getting around 17 on the Hwy and the other has the 4.7 like mine and he is getting close to 18 on the hwy. Both also have 3.92 rear ends. What is up??? I drive my truck like and old granny it still suck up the gas. Any ideas???

Message: I agree that you should be concerned. I have an '01 Dak 4.7/5-spd/3:92 RC, and get 19mpg overall with Flowmaster 70 duals and K&N drop-in homebrew. Have the dealer scope the engine. It's off enough that it may be a clogged cat converter, maybe from some bad gas, a bad spark plug, or clogged fuel filter. Check and see if all the hoses are in the right place, and you don't have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Message: I bought a used 01/4.7L/Quad SLT/Auto/4x4/3.55/11,700 miles less than a week ago. I didn't expect good mileage but even with low expectations I am starting to get worried about the fuel consumption. If (????) the overhead console is correct I am getting somewhere just shy of 9 MPG in city driving. It is cold here now (0 to 25F) and occasionally icy/snowy (so occasionally 4x4). Is this normal???? If so I am scared of how much fuel it will burn towing my boat next summer.
I am not driving too hard. I baby the accelerator. I mean really baby it. I am not using cheap gas (medium grade 88.5 @$1.83 per. It has a fiberglass tonneau (not that this would help in town).
Without doing the aftermarket things (yet), some ideas I have generated from this site and others to improve:
1) reset computer so it learns my (baby) driving habits
2) be sure catalytic converter is free and functional
3) calculate mileage independent of overhead console to be sure computer is right
4) drive with OD off in town
5) ensure TSBs on computer are current
6) be happy, MPGs will improve with more miles
Can anybody add to this list or tell me which ones to focus on. Or make me feel better with a good story of bad mileage gone good?

Message: I would suggest a couple items on your list NOT to focus on. I'd leave the OD on. The 45RFE doesn't seem to have the "hunting" problems some ODs do. When in OD, you're saving gas. Some PCM updates may retard timing - that won't help your milage either. Take a good look at #3 on your list. Overhead milage readouts are notoriously inacurate.
