OK i need a little help here. I have a 2002 dodge dakota. With the 4.7 liter. I recently reset the computer, using the techniques on this board.. I unhooked the negative battery terminal, then turned the key to start and BAM. The check engine light went out. Now here's my question. I did this a week ago. And still when I turn the key to the start position and wait 15 secs, the engine light begins to blink. In the owners manual it says to take to dealer and or if your battery was changed to keep driving until the OBD II updates. This has been a week ago today and 220 miles later, and the light still blinks. (now originally the light went on after sitting in and out of a shop, without any warmup or anything. I got pissed and reset the computer. And now I am worried that the OBD 2 is not working properly. Please if any1 can help me, I would really appreciate it.

When I first got my 2001 4.7L Dakota,It did the same thing,The check engine light would flash on and then go off.Dealer didn't find anything wrong with it and I had less than 500 miles on it,Then i go out to start it and nothing!Check engine light came on and it said NO BUSS,BAD PCM.took over a month to get a new one but that was it.
BAD PCM!!!!!!

I have a 2002 Dakota w/a 4.7 Magnum. It came from the dealer with the wrong oil dip stick and my question is! On an oil and filter change doe the engine hold 5 or 6 qts?

it takes 6 and the oil level will read close to the bottom of the dipstip read. In other words with 6 quarts of oil it can look like it needs bit more, but it doesn't. One thing sometimes those oil changers don't let the quart empty so you might carry an extra quart and add a few ounces after an oil change. Be very careful doing this. Do NOT overfill the 4.7.

Always read a 4.7 dipstick with the truck parked on a level surface. Otherwise, you may get a false reading.

Hi,
I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota with 57,000 miles on it.About 3 months ago I had a check engine light code p0455 which is a evap leak.I fix the problem and reset the computer and it went away for about 4 days, trust me I was in cloud 9 thinking I fix the problem.Well on the day 5 the light came back on and check it by turning the key on and off and on again and it cvame uo with a P0601 code PCM. What is the PCM and can I fix the problem and is it a expensive repair.I am thinking I had enough of the check engine codes and thinking of trading in the truck for something else maybe a chevy.PLEASE HELP!!!!!

PCM = power control module (computer), and all vehicles have them now, you can't get away from that by going to a Chevy. You don't say what you did to "fix" the first problem - what did you do, maybe you only reset the computer without actually fixing the problem. What did you find when you looked up code P0601 (or didn't you bother to look it up ?).
Be forewarned, when you get an evaporative leak mil in a Chevy, it may have to go into the dealer to be reset - I've seen that a couple times at work when guys left the trucks running while refueling.

I fix the p0455 code by tighten the fuel cap and checking all the hose, also on my truck I have a fitting that looks like a a/c nipple between 1 of the evap lines and I tighten that fitting.Then I reset the computer. The P0601 code I check on the web and came up with a PCM control failure,but it does not tell you how to fix the problem.The truck runs fine.Please don't get me wrong I love my truck.I always wanted a quad cab,I am just getting fustrated with all this engine codes.

Yeah, none of the codes really tell you exactly how to fix them, just kind of point you in a direction. Maybe someone will be familiar with this (might even want to start a fresh thread titled "P0601 code" ?). Problems can be frustrating, but Chevy's have their share too, seen all kinds of problems on the 2 '03's we have at work (including broken exhaust manifold studs on both of them). If it's the PCM, you can find a reasonably priced one at Car-Part.com; many salvage yards together online. Good luck !

almost 99% of the evap codes will be taken care of with a new gas cap. For some reason the dakota gas cap goes bad somehow.

The P0601 is an internal controller fault (check sum error), probably going to need another PCM.
How many miles, may still be under warranty?

I also have a 2002 dodge dakota sport with a 4.7 i Had it in the shop for 35 days to replace the engine at the dodge place and i get all kinds of codes ..p0601, p0051,p0152,p0155,p0456. dodge doesnt know how to fix it. the check engine light comes on all the time. i turn the key on and off 3 times and the codes show up on the milage.

i am getting p0456 which is a small emission leak wondering if any
one else had that problem it could take hours to find it my buddy
has the 2002 with the same code so i thought it was a popular
thing with these trucks if anyone could help it would be great
inspection is due next month dont think it will pass becouse of the

02 dodge dakota evap code 0455 check the rubber connections next to the battery for the pressure pump-the evap can mounted on frame under drivers door check rubber connections -they dry out and crack-very likly your problem

Hey Guys, I've got a 02' dakota sport 4.7 2WD Quad Cab with a
factory lowered Kit with about 150grand on it. I'm the second
owner. I Love this Truck Except i due for shocks and having a
hella' of a time trying to find the right shock length? since i

I have a 02 dakota v8 extended cab, my problem is where there is no code. At anytime it just starts to spit and sputter and sometimes will quit all together. Taken it several times to the dealer. They say it happens so quick it will not show a code. so they want to go to the process of replacing this that and the other. As you all know this can be very expensive. Anyone else here having the same problem?
