Message: There are over 30 TSBs and a couple recalls too. (Technical Service Bulliten)
BY LAW, the manufacturers must notify you of a RECALL. (safety problem)
The TSBs are usually not discussed in public near the dealerships. These are not (by law) a safety item so they may not tell you about them unless you complain about a problem. (for example, stalling has been cured with a update to the engine computer programming)
Here is 2 online links to the TSBs. Keep in mind these show only a terse description of each one. You have to PAY for the full info. There are some folks that have payed the annual fee and can look up a TSB if you ask nicely 8-)

Message: (Canucker)
Ask MOPAR67 over in the EDMUNDS dakota forums. He has paied the annual fee for the 2000 Dakota TSBs and has offered to do a "look up" for anyone who asks.
http://townhall.edmunds.com/TH/townhall
He can be found in the "Dodge Dakota Owners - Quad Cab" area. (just search for Dodge - Dakota)

Message: LOL. Just for laughs I looked up some older cars at the alldata link.
I looked up a '70 Plymouth Barracuda with the 440 6-bbl engine. One of the TSB's was for poor idle quality and fuel economy!! It's a friggin' 440 with 3-2 barrel carbs! Of course you're going to get poor mileage!
Same one for the Hemi. Geez, who woulda thought a Hemi with 2-4 barrels would get bad mileage.

Message: I have a 2003 dakota 3.9L with 30,000 miles I've been to the dealership 9 times with different problems cd player's(3), dome light, airbag clock spring, faulty front differential seal, chattering noise in the engine twice like a weak lifter and a missaligned bed. one dealer told me that they can't get my truck to make the chatter noise the other I took a tech along and he said he hear's it and would check for any service bulletins related to the problem. They wrote it up as "spark knock" which in the owners manual is listed as a part of normal operation. I am a certified aviation mechanic with a licence from pittsburg institute of aeronautics if that matters any and I assure you that "spark knock" doesn't chatter. All I can say is I'll never own another mopar.
Sincerly,
Dan

Message: What made you post in this string?
-You probably have a bad fan switch
-have your rear brakes and wheel bearings checked.
-Is your check engine light on? I just changed my first ignition coil in my 2001 4.7 (I had a snap-on OBD2 scanner available.) You need to code the engine either through the check engine codes (how?) or with a scanner. I'm not sure if the 2000 has a distributor or coils. Pull your plugs and see how they look. A good mechanic can look at them and at least eliminate some possibilities.
