Does anyone know if the plastic shield under the truck that you have to reach through the little hole in to get to the oil filter actually serves a purpose, or if it was just put there to make us feel like it was designed by a real communist pinko b*stard? I took mine off last night when I put in my 180 stat and wanted to know if I should just throw it away, or if I need to put it back.

Ya, I am designing a skid plate to replace it. It will not cover as much area as the origanal but it will cover 60%-70% of the same area. I am useing aluminum and keeping the sides open so you can reach in. I am going to mount my Amsoil Dual remote bypass filter to it.I have two Aluminum GM skidplates that I am reworking. One for the front and one for the trany pan. I need to design one for our fuel tank and t/case.

Canucker, there's nothing wrong with engineers, they have the ideas that work-it's the damn accountants that take every good design and cost reduce it into a piece of crap!!!

Stinkin' bean counters...
