Subject: High Flow Cats IP: Logged
Message: Is the cat on the 4.7L (2000) just an in and out (i.e. no auxilliary air input)?
From what I remember it is, and there is air going into the exhaust through the manifold???
Anyone know for sure?
If you look close at pictures of JBA headers, there's a small tube that looks like its going from the head to the header tube.

Message: Cat is just in and out on a 2000. Theres no emissions connected to the cat or the headers.

Message: why buy a cat and then gut it!? ... easier and cheaper to remove the cat and put a straight pipe in ... but that would screw with your aft O2 reading .. would need an O2 box.
BUT if you bought a high flow cat ... it _should_ be as good as removing it (or as close as possible).
Thanks for the posts guys

Message: Check this web link ... look at the bottom header, on the far right side, there's a tube going into the collector ... isn't that an air tube? ... look at the gasket underneath too, there's a hole for it, right outta the cylinder head. ...

Message: That tube goes right back into the header. Its not any kind of emissions. Trust me on this one, there are no emissions equipment in the header.
I've done headers on the 4.7L, 3 times. There is a small exhaust tube there but it goes straight into the header or manifold. Thats why you can see the hole in the gasket.

Message: why is it there? seems odd to me. Where does the other end of the tube go? to a port in the head? where does that port go? is it part of an egr system?
I'm just curious that's all.

Can I send you a picture of the manifold in your email?

yeah fire away ... as long as it's not too big (I think yahoo has a limit). If it is big, email me and I'll send you a different email address.

Yes you would likely get bad mileage and a decrease in power ... depends on how it went bad though (i.e. is it clogged or blown out). Either way, you should get a check engine light or something.

The hole goes right into the manifold. Most likely they were going to use it but the engine ran clean enough.
