Message: I just got my dak a little over a week ago, love it (4.7 CC auto). Right now I can't afford to do any performance upgrades cuz all of my cash has to go into audio, but I do have a 35+ mile drive to school (stop and go traffic in morning, straight highway drive in afternoon) and am lookin for a few cheap ways to increase my mileage.
My choices are intake (360 airintakez), carsound cat, and black magic 150.
I think that I would get the best MPG gains from the fan, cat, then intake, in that order, but I really have no experience with this engine, or any dodges yet, so any of you that have one or more of these on a 4.7, can you please tell me how it helped mileage if any? I know the intake is very minimal which is why it's last. Thanks! :D

Message: Hello,
I also have a 4.7 CC and have done all the usual mods; ie intake, exhaust, IAT sensor relocation, TPS recalibration, Autolite 3923 plugs. Unfortunatly I have only picked up aout 1 to 1.5 mpg gain. I did all these mods at the same time so I can't tell you in what order to do them to make the most impact if your going to do them one at a time. I have 3.92:1 ratio gears and I know I could get better milage with the 3.55:1 but that would give up ALOT of quickness. The problem with the Dodge Dakota is that there's not much you can do to boost the milage. SORRY!!!!!

Message: I too did all the usual mods, one at a time though, and the only thing that got me the extra mileage (about 3mpg? I can't remember) was the intake ... the IAT relocate will actually lose you some mileage, the exhaust doesn't do much but sound nice, the TPS may actually lose you a bit too, the spark plugs don't do a thing.
Removing the clutch fan should give you a bit (I haven't done it yet), and I'm not sure about the cat.
Save your $$ on the intake and make your own though. Its cheaper and will work better if you build it right.
The problem with doing all the mods is it'll sound better at WOT and you wont be able to keep your foot out of it, so you'll just end up losing mileage anyhow! That's my problem at present.
I've also heard the HO cams gain you a bit of mileage and a good bit of power (but again, you wont be able to keep your foot off the floor boards!).
Good luck to ya.

Message: The biggest gas mileage improvement you can do is to change the way you drive. I mean coast more instead of gas/brake/gas/brake.
Parts wise the best would be a hi-po ignition setup(jacobs, msd, etc.) Jacobs makes a setup just for better gas mileage. They advertise that you can get a 10% increase in mpg. with a bonus of a few HP too.

Message: I didn't think Jacobs offered anything for a 4.7 It is a coil-on-plug system afterall.

Message: I noticed about 1 to maybe 1.5 mpg increase with a K$N drop-in and switching to mobil 1 synthetic oil (any decent synthetic oil would probably work) but these modifications are relatively expensive for the gains. However, over the long run I think it's worth it. How long are you planning to keep your vehicle?

Message: I'll be keeping the truck for a LONG time. I'm 19, paying my own way thru college for what federal grants don't cover, and just bought this truck on my own. The main reason I'm doing audio rather than performance is it's much easier on the truck (not to mention I know a lot more about it than performance).
POWER HUNGRY, I do let it coast a lot. My highway mileage isn't THAT bad anyway, my in town sucks but that's because of accelerating with the 3.55's I do in fact put my foot into it more, I do mostly highway driving though so that's all I'm worried about, and on there I drive conservatively.
I'm about to change my plugs to the 3923's anyway, as well as readjust the TPS voltage. I live in houston so I'm not going to just remove the clutch fan I'm gonna replace it with the BM 150 most likely. I've heard that helps mileage a good deal, does anyone know about the cat tho? From what people have said, the cat is a real bottleneck on the 4.7 exaust system, seems like itd help a decent amount?

Message: I didn't realize it was a plug on coil motor, I guess I am kinda old school. I'm not use to thinking of dodge as a high tech company. I am more into high tq, red line shifting, tire smoking power slides!
