Somebody prbably meant 4.7L. Thought it was a 4.6L and just keyed it in backwards, funny though

Message: That 345 hp engine is going to be the Next Gen 5.7 that will replace the gas hog slug bug 5.9. Lets hope the Dak see's that engine real soon.

Message: Don't look for any better mileage from the new Hemi motor. I've already heard stories that the new Rams are only seeing 11-12 mpg with the new Hemi. At least that's the story from a Chrylser engineer who's been driving a test mule for a while......

Message: The only way they are going to start seeing better mileage out of these trucks is to reduce the weight. How good of gas mileage can a 4000+ lbs. car possibly get? Light weight body paneling is the way to go. The M80 concept truck is built on a dakota chassis but only weighs 2500 pounds. Thats fantastic. Imagine what performace would be like if your dak went on a 1500lb diet. I'm sure other things played into weight reduction but the body panels were a big part of it.

Message: Yeah.. but the M-80 is -fugly as all get out-.
I'm hoping for the 5.7L, and I -hope- they finally stick a manual tranny behind it...

Message: I wouldn't count on the manuel tranny for the 5.7L. I doubt they could fit a NV-4500 under a dak.
And the M-80...yeah its pretty damn ugly.

Message: The Rams are heavier than 4000 lbs, but my 4200lb Dakota gets 21-23 on the hwy. But its got the no-torque 4.7 motor.

Message: FYI the 408 is 6.7L, Robert.
alex is half right in his statement ... if you look at the torque curve for the 4.7L, there's a hole where the torque actually goes down between 1500RPM and 2400RPM (at least on mine), that's where the cruising is usually done, so that's why the 4.7L gets so much better mileage than the 5.2/5.9 and probably the 3.9 too.
That's also why turbo cars (like WRX's) get good mileage too (but can still haul a$$)... they have no torque output when they're outta boost, so they cruise around with 100-120ft.lbs all the time.
the 4.7L cruises with 200ft.lbs on tap.

Message: I've never had a problem with the amount of torque the 4.7L produces. I've used my truck to pull a 20ft. aquasport center console fishing boat with absolutely no problems. I pulled the boat across Florida at 5mph over the speed limit and still got 14mpg and in 5th gear.
The 4000lbs. was just an example of the weight of trucks (being heavy).

Message: Alright... correct me if I'm wrong... r they going to put the 5.7 hemi in the durango?
If they do... I plan on buying the engine somewhere... somehow.. and putting it in my dakota... with the 5-speed and the 5.7 hemi... and my old I4 symbol on the side... people will go crazy when I completely blow them out of the water with a cold air intake, flowmaster exhaust, and a supercharger of some kind. Tell me what u guys think... I'm thinkin' that'd be just about the fastest dakota around.

Message: They could clean up the underside of the truck with composite belly pans and equip all the trucks with some sort of removable rigid bed cove. A Caprice with 5.7 small block could get 23-26 MPG while a lighter weight 2wd truck with the same engine and transmission only got 12-19 MPG. The only real difference was aerodynamics.

Message: Were you wanting to put a new style hemi or an old one? Check with Schumaker Creative Services for engine swap kits? I've seen an old style Hemi in a dakota, so I know it will fit.
Have you considered putting a V-10 in the dakota? Just a thought ....
