Message: 97 5.2 x-cab, 50k miles, noticed a loss of power. Dealer changed my intake gasket. No help, but now the lifters are super noisy (for about 3 seconds)on cold start. Tried different oil filters. I use good 10w30 oil. Any thoughts?

Message: Noisy lifters on cold starts is a common thing. The oil needs those three seconds to get back into your lifters after your engine has been off for an extended period of time and all the oil has seeped back into the oil pan. And hey! Just be glad it goes away after those three seconds. Other than that maybe your lifters need to be adjusted or maybe your pump is getting weak, noticed any difference in your oil pressure reading?(That's if you have a gauge).

Message: I have a 2001 Dakota with the smaller v-8 . Just turned 80k and low and behold , started it the other day and i thought the thing was going to blow up! Lifters rapping like hell when its cold or has sat for more than a few hours. Ive been told its a lifter adjustment needed? Other forums have said to try a synthetic 0-W-30 oil. Tried motor honey and doesnt seem to help. Amy ideas?

Message: Try running some engine flush for 20 minutes before you drain the oil. Run it long enough to get it good and hot and flow the flush throught the lifters.
