Subject: MBRP or Gibson...opinions? IP: Logged
Message: I know each system would sound different, I am looking to get the single stainless cat back system for a 97 Dakota 4x4 w/EC and 318.
MBRP S4020 or Gibson 616507
What is the relative difference between the two systems? Is one louder than the other?
One better than the other?
I am looking to stay on the quiet side.
Thanks,
William

Message: William,
I have an MBRP muffler on my Durango, and if you don't want loud, go with something else. The MBRP is very loud exterior, but not bad interior. I like a loud exhaust, that is why I went with the MBRP.

Message: I have mbrp duals and it sounds awesome outside but quite on the inside. My friend put a gibson s.s. cat back on his 97 wrangler and I found the quality to be a little less (tubing, welds, muffler) than the mbrp.

Message: Thanks for the replies, I guess it is best that I stay with Gibson for a more mellow sound. I am not looking to be heard, I just want to GO.

Message: I concur. I just put a MBRP cat back dual system on my Dak last Saturday. Awesome! I don't know about hp gains but the truck does seem peppier. Call Jonas, his price on this is over $100 cheaper than ordering direct!

Message: Go with the MBRP. I'm very happy with mine. Had it over a year. I think I was one of the first to get one for my year. Quality, fit, and finish are excellent.

Message: I had a gibson single before i put on my MBRP dual. I love the sound of the MBRP, it is by far the best sounded exhaust out there. But if you're looking for quiet, go with the Gibson, i loved it for its sound also. But i just wanted more, and the MBRP delivered. Im hopeing to get some more sound of the MBRP by removing my 3rd cat, but i have yet to get off my lazy a$$ and do it.

Message: MBRP all the way! Glen, you HAVE got to do the straight piped cat. It makes a huge difference. It makes that MBRP just plain mean sounding.
They are tough, made very well, and sound awesome. Not to mention, they actually do help ya out a bit and it's a flow through design. I have no experience with the Gibson, but I can vouch for the MBRP. I have an extra MBRP sticker if anyone is interested.

Message: Due to our local noise emission laws (even the original R/T exhaust is too loud for Switzerland and must be "down-graded" by an additional rear muffler) I choose the Gibson dual rear exit exhaust.
Of course it is way too loud for Switzerland but before they can fine me they have to catch me ;-)
I like the sound of the Gibson. It is deep and mellow, produces a nice sound on the inside and is loud outside - but not much.
A good choice if you don't like it too loud.

Message: I still have my gibson stainless single catback. If anyone wants to buy it. I'll have to clean it up and take some pictures of it, i only had it for at the most 8000 miles (i have 41k already). I do like the sound of the gibson, but i wanted to show off so i got the MBRP, otherwise the gibson is a nice catback.

Message: I have the Gibs Dual Sport and love it-as do my friends. Within the first month I had about 30-40 people tell me how awesome it sounds. Performance gains with an intake are very noticeable too.

Message: Ihave a gibson cat back on my 95 4.0 Cherokee and it gave me an honest 1.5 mpg increase over the stock system. It is a little luoder than the stock ,but is a nice mellow tone. Also sounds as mellow as stock at cruising speeds. would have put one on my 96 DAK, but nobody makes crap for us Gen 2 guys so I put a flowmaster terminator on my Dak and its louder than the gibson. hope this helps.

Message: No question about it, get the MBRP exhaust it kills the Gibson and you will love the sound. Why add on something that sounds similar to what you or ready had!
