Subject: removing clutch fan 4.7? yes i searched IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 dakota cc 4.7l and want to take off the clutch fan. there is an electric fan in front of the clutch is this the one that kicks on at 180? my car runs in the 190-200 rang all the time(best I can tell).
seen some of you have removed the clutch fan and use the stock electric fan to cool the car any concerns to doing this? mid 70's in north florida right now. should I get the 180 t-stat?
also does the cluch fan use that much energy free spinning?
sorry for the long post all info appreciated.
thankyou, matt

Message: The fan in the 4.7 is not a power hog like the 5.2 and 5.9 units, if you live in Florida stay with the stock setup or add an extra electric fan.180 stat is the way to go.

Message: my clutch fan from what I can tell is usually not fully engaged. 220 is when it comes on corect?
my dak has an electric in front of the clutch which from my research is supposed to turn on at 180.
the 180 thermostat is in my garage waiting for some free time.
thankyou for your responce.

Message: I know this is an old post but I wanted to add something to it. I live in Florida and have a `00 QC 4.7 Dak and I removed the clutch fan about 3 years ago. The truck still performs the way it did prior to removing it. No power difference or mileage difference, that I can tell, except for highway mileage where I get around 20+. The one thing I don`t like is the a/c clutch is alot more noticeable when it engages now than before. It has yet to run hot. The electric fan comes on at 210* or when the a/c is on. No probs here.
Just thought I`d add my $0.02
