last year i bought a 97 dakota slt. 5.2L, automatic, 4x4, extended cab. I paid $16,300 before taxes. did i pay too much? truck had 33,000 miles on it. Guess it is a little too late now but was just wondering if it is comparable to other places.

Texas, the truck was in really nice condition. interior was spotless. just a few minor scratches on the outside. nothing you could see from 3 feet away. came with a bedliner and a tonneau cover.

DON'T use Kelly Blue Book for values. They are notorious for giving low trade in values and high retail values. Why do you think dealers would actually point you in their direction for values? Because they pad their pockbooks! Try www.nada.com or www.edmunds.com they seem have a much better grasp on what cars are really buying and selling for.

With miles that low you have to go by the sticker price. If that truck ran 24-26,000 bucks sticker, then you probably got yourself a decent deal. 97 Daks have lots of problems being the first year of the re-design, many problems that the 98-99 Daks have fixed. If the sticker price was around 20-22,000 then you could have done better.

Whats really important is that you drive the piss out of it, find out any problems, fix em, and then ask yourself if you got a deal. You might think otherwise if you need a new evaporator coil, condensor, HVAC blower motor, U joints and a timing chain, there goes 2,500 bucks.
