How about the routine maintenance, like flushing and refilling the radiator? A bottle of Redline's "Water Wetter" can help too.

I live in Phoenix. I also have a 318. It's been over 110 for 2 months now and my truck runs fine. I change the coolant every year. replace the air cleaner b4 the summer. It runs at a steady 195. I just do regular maint. Good luck. Although with some of the problems I have lately, the deep river sounds like a good idea.

I'm going to assume that the 318's have an electric fan in addition to an engine driven fan like my Y2K...

In addition to the other stuff mentioned, check the electric fan. Mine was not plugged in at the factory, causing very high temps in traffic, especially with the AC on. Also caused a side effect of really poor AC performance when in traffic but good AC performnace above 30 mph. It took the dealer 2 days to figure out that the electirc fan wasn't plugged in. The easiest way to check that is to turn on the AC while parked, the look to see if the electric fan is running.
